yeah unfortunately. Norway needed time to build up the country again after ww2. Sweden didn't have any country to build so their industry prospered. By sharing some of the oil Norway then hoped to get in return some of the success Volvo Sweden then had, but Volvo thought it was an bad idea.

Thank fucking god for that, thank you fucking god....

Norwegian nature is superior to ours, but our architecture/buildings are superior to theirs. They barely have anything old and beautiful compared to us and Denmark.

But sure if you like glass mansions, Norway is for you.

like the others said, that's not a fjord.

we do have real fjords, however:

they don't look nearly as impressive as the norwegian ones, but they are fjords by definition, nontheless. of course, by these definitions, even denmark has fjords.

I really like norwegian landscapes, but in all honesty, the hipster on the mountaintop ruins that photograph.

rule number one when you photograph landscapes: don't include any people. I don't give a shit about how badass you feel for braving nature or whatever, what I want to see is the landscape itself, not you.

Funny fact: Finland is commonly called "the land of the thousand lakes" in the Nordic countries. Obviously there's much more than a thousand, but the point is that Finns see the high number and density of lakes in Finland as a defining characteristic of their landscape, and use it to create their identity.

The funny thing is that while Finland has about 50 000 lakes, Sweden has about 100 000 of them. If we take the areas of each country into account (340k km2 for Finland, 450k km2 for Sweden), we find that Sweden doesn't only have twice the amount of lakes that Finland has, but they're also much more densely distributed than in Finland.

So if anything, Sweden should be the "land of the thousand lakes". Finland doesn't excel at anything.

because they were stupid assholes. They were hunting people from the resistance movement with bombers. They even erased a small city because they thought the king was hiding there. He was not, he was on his way to England with a boat

Lmao you guys gave the germans iron, you wouldnt have blown up shit
>>
During the invasion of Scandinavia, Sweden kept neutral, but because much of their income was generated by exporting iron, they continued to sell it to Nazi Germany. Sweden would not help Finland fight off the Soviet attack, but 8,000 Swedes volunteered for the Finnish army. Sensing the impending trouble, nearly everyone in the country pitched in to bolster the Swedish defense lines. The meager Swedish army nearly doubled overnight from volunteers and by war’s end tripled from that. Civilians built shelters, scanned the skies for enemy aircraft, donated time and money and made military vehicles and supplies. Germany told Sweden to stay neutral, but "pro-German," meaning they would have to abide by Germany’s demands. The Swedes would not listen to Germany’s threats and told them if Sweden was invaded they would blow up the iron ore mines. Although Sweden was surrounded by chaotic war, its citizens led relatively normal lives. However, every Swedish family was affected by it because so many civilians were called into the military reserves.

2/2
After Germany conquered Denmark and Norway they blockaded Sweden from the outside, forcing Sweden to deal exclusively with Germany. This imposed terrible food and supply shortages, but the resilient Swedes made the best out of a bad situation. They pushed their food production to the limit and used enormous amounts of timber for countless by-products. Censorship was rampant and anti-German and anti-Communist sentiments abounded, which was only compounded when Sweden’s King Gustav V let Germany move their troops across Swedish land. Hitler did not invade Sweden because he did not want to waste valuable troops in Scandinavia when he had other concerns. The Swedes proved their neutrality by not letting Germany use Swedish airspace: when the Germans flew over Sweden to attack Norway, the Swedes fired back with anti-aircraft guns. The Swedish reluctance to bend under German pressure infuriated Hitler, but he had more important things to worry about--the invasion of western Europe.

>>
>>78286117
The Brits weren't trying to defend you, they were going to invade you themselves, but the Germans figured out their plans and beat them to it. The planned allied invasion of neutral Norway (and later Sweden) had two main purposes. The first was to shut down the shipments of Swedish iron ore out of Norwegian ports to Germany. A British invasion would have prompted the Germans to invade the Scandinavian peninsula from the south in order to regain access to the iron ore, which was the second reason for the planned British invasion. If the war was primarily fought on Scandinavian rather than French soil, it would be the Swedish and Norwegian civilians who suffered rather than the civilians of the allied countries.

>>78286234
We did not give iron ore to anyone. As a neutral nation, we engaged in trade with a number of countries, Germany among them. As long as our neutrality was respected, we were glad to sell them stuff, but if they had made themselves our enemies, we would have denied them anything we could.
>>

Yeah, that's not really what happened, Ole. The German demands for troop transports through Sweden were refused until after hostilities ceased in Norway. After Norway fell, the Swedish refusals became untenable and we had to give in or be invaded ourselves.
