So you did nothing wrong, it's probably her accent. YOu learned a neutral version of Japanese, or at best a Tokyo accent, something everybody can understand. Osaka is a fucked up accent. It'd be like learning French for years and then calling a rural Quebec dude, the average city guy in Quebec has the presence of mind to talk with a more neutral accent to strangers but most rural folks don't do that because they never needed to.
