They've been showing anime dubbed for over a month every night from 12. They're on Toyko Ghoul now and just finished Bebop. I've been watching it everynight for the past 2 or 3 weeks.

The Catholic was very on edge at the time given their circumstances. They didn't want to support separatist movements or else they might anger many protestant powers like the UK, USA and German Empire. If the church openly advocated Ireland breaking loose from the UK then whether it failed or succeeded the English government would become much harsher on their remaining Catholic subjects.
Remember that not too long before 1916 the US broke off diplomatic relations with the Holy See just because the Pope called Jefferson Davis the president of the Confederate States of America.
>>
>>78165027
What about the strong socialist undertones of 1916? Surely that also contributed a fair bit to their actions.

Also a possible contribution to their inaction but I don't think it was the biggest concern for them.
Were our socialists even as anti-religion as the types they had in Russia for instance? I know Connolly was raised and buried Catholic but I don't know about his feelings towards it during his life. Even if they were a lot of fighters were still staunchly Catholic, I doubt Dev would be happy with an Ireland without the church.

Yes because I enjoy daily cancerous arguments with newfags over anime images posted on an anime website. I adore being accused of avatarfagging for posting two unrelated images while a homosexual posts nothing but a failed boxer and another over a sub-par actress. I hate the fact we no longer have knackers trying to fight each other.

Only because you were the only consistent anime poster. I used to be but I stopped because I figured maybe angrylad would calm down if less was posted. He didn't. I remember one thread where everything was going well, 150 or so posts in and not a single anime image posted, when he went on a trademark rant as usual about anime. Then his orbiters joined in and started shitposting over nothing. That lad had problems. If he was the last man on Earth he'd start a fight with his shadow.
From that point on I realised he couldn't be reasoned with so I stopped bothering.

>and I still consider that to be a top-tier peiod of /éire/
And still have no idea how you can think that. I think you just liked being the only anime poster.

If memory serves me correctly, Angrylad was never identified as Angrylad until around Christmas time.

>And still have no idea how you can think that
The conversation and variety of discussion was far better back then. When a news topic was posted, people would actually discuss it, often for quite some time. Historical discussion was also quite common (although the IRA LARPers used to ruin that more than I would have liked), and people were more willing to discuss things at length. Sure, there was a lot of shitposting and some awful posters (mainly Nordies, but they were great fun to wind up), but I felt like /éire/ was a lot more vibrant and relevant back then than it has become.

Don't get me wrong, I still like /éire/. But I feel like we've been stagnating for most of 2017.

>news posting
I remember discussing the news a good few times and it was very enjoyable.
The typical theory that is thrown about is that everyone is tired of news now with Drumpf and such, which may be fairly true.
Plus the Dáil is out and one could argue politics here is fairly stagnant and we haven't had many terrorist attacks in the last year, of the same scale from previous years.
>>
Seems weird that you'd blame the west brits and foreigners for threads being shit when they are the ones that leave and don't post anymore
Yet the regulars that stay and post in every thread are completely free from blame because they are all non-dubs
All they seem to do is pat themselves on the back and reflect on their bloated sense of self worth. I think deep down you really enjoy having new foreign posters to spook away, breaks the monotony of posting /marbh/, talking about éire history like its relevant in any way or the usual late night depression posting. Never seen more life and happiness out of you fuckers than after you stalked and doxxed that spanish kid

>The typical theory that is thrown about is that everyone is tired of news now with Drumpf and such, which may be fairly true.
That's a shit theory though. When I used to make daily news posts to spark discussion on early afternoon /éire/, it was usually only content from Ireland or the UK. Sure, we discussed Trump occasionally in the weeks leading up to the election, but after he was elected he was rarely ever mentioned on /éire/ again. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that the past two days are the most he has been mentioned here since the election.

>>78178955
>I think deep down you really enjoy having new foreign posters to spook away, breaks the monotony of posting /marbh/
If that was true, then why has Lux never been an issue? It's because he's not a disruptive foreign-poster like so many of the Brits, Swissyank, and the Spaniard.

Also, most of us opposed the doxxing. AA has serious problems. Is he banned does anybody know?
>>
>>78178826
So go to /brit/ or join the skype group. It sounds like you fit in far better with them.
>>

He's banned and said he was taking a break from the general. He's not normally as erratic as he has been the past week or two, hopefully he takes time away from here to calm things down in his life.

>Angrylad was never identified as Angrylad until around Christmas time
Doesn't change the fact that he was still there.

>When a news topic was posted, people would actually discuss it
The problem is you were the one that posted news stories and you don't do it much anymore. Plus as Poi said the news has been boring lately.

>Historical discussion was also quite common
I don't remember much apart from discovering Pearse's poetry and your naval history lessons.
If you want to discuss history then just bring up the topic.

>I felt like /éire/ was a lot more vibrant and relevant back then than it has become
You sound like a leftist describing the benefits of a multicultural society.
Personally I felt like the last few months have been an unprecedented golden age, I never thought

But really this is the problem with meta shit, we have different opinions and therefore can't come to a conclusion.
>>
>>78179044
As far as I could see the lad who did it was justified by saying that he was just feeling a little "mentally overwhelmed" with no repercussions for what he did. It's clear the clique with tolerate any sort of behaviour from it's members.
>>
>>78179261
I don't support doxxing but the Spaniard was a blatant shitposter by his own admission and I'm glad he's gone. Plus it's his own fault for being stupid enough to post his personal e-mail to someone he was ERPing with on 4chan. It's not like any personal details were even revealed, the biggest thing were some gay comments he made and we already knew he was into that anyway.

What makes you think that? The great thing about /éire/ immediately post-revival was that it was fast and vibrant without descending into short, inane /brit/-posting (most of the time). 3 threads a day was not unusual, and threads were usually active right through the night. I hate /brit/, and believe me that I wouldn't have stayed in /éire/ on

Also I believe my stance on the Skype group is well known; I was asked to join, and I declined with good reason. Skype group members are responsible for many of the problems /éire/ has right now. /éire/ has never been the same since they returned in January.

>>78179259
>The problem is you were the one that posted news stories and you don't do it much anymore
Because people were ignoring them. After the /brit/ invasion in May, I said I'd start posting them again but that only lasted a few days because it was pointless.

>I don't remember much apart from discovering Pearse's poetry and your naval history lessons.
I still remember a fantastic conversation I had with a lad about German reunification prospects during the 19th century. Went on for a few hours.

>You sound like a leftist describing the benefits of a multicultural society.
Then you are misunderstanding me. I'm not saying that /éire/ was good back then BECAUSE of the foreign posters. It was good in spite of them.

>Personally I felt like the last few months have been an unprecedented golden age, I never thought
While I wouldn't consider the past few months to have been a low point (that would have been May), it hasn't been great either.

This is actually a very good point. It's a symptom of our small population in the general though. A small population allows personalities to flourish, both intentionally and unintentionally.

The Skype group are mostly far right and have many views which align with yours. The people you bemoan as missing from the thread prior to March are members of the Skype group.
It isn't some exclusive club and many of those who post here every day are already members, if you express an interest you'll get an invite within the hour.

>Skype group members are responsible for many of the problems /éire/ has right now
While it still exists and who knows what it gets up to, the Skype group is for the most part a boogeyman. It started back when Vape King appeared and invited the swissyank to it (whether he was actually a member or just bullshitting is unknown) then the swissyank declined and Vape King claimed that he hacked his e-mail and discovered his 20andme results. That's where the rumour of the swiss yank being half-swiss half-Belgian came from. After that any time someone critiscised or insulted him the swissyank blamed it on some non-existant organised attack from, as he called it, the "skype cabal" and not due to him being an abhorrent poster.

Okay, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Firstly, I am not mourning the loss of anybody who left before March - good riddance to that collective of shitposters and brits. Secondly, most the Skype group members who returned in January are still here.

I agree that the "Skype cabal" is predominantly a Swissyank boogeyman, but there was definitely a coordinated influx of Skype group members into /éire/ back in January - they all but admitted as such at the time.

They never left. The people who returned were old /éire/ and non-Skype. The influence of the Skype group in the general has decreased steadily from the end of 2016 to now.
The Skype group by the way were the ones who revived /éire/, did you think some outsider just randomly re-created the general with the same name?

You realise /éire/ never properly died, right? For the first few weeks of 2016 it was certainly dead and you might get one thread every five days that died after ten posts but after a while it came back. Granted these threads were very slow and it was rare we had more than one a day and the quality varied between shit to alright but there were daily threads from Spring onwards.

It has been like that for months. The Frog, Jaggy, Poi, AA and whoever else just masturbating each other's egos and ignoring other posters or outright bullying them. There used to be a wide range and diverse set of posters and posts with eclectic discussion, it has literally been the same thing everyday I have been here since it started and it is so fucking boring. You can see it in this thread too and it is why the threads are dead more often than not unless those posters are circlejerking about their tedious personalities or lives. Of course those people don't like this self evident fact mentioned and like most narcissists shut down any criticism of themselves they find untenable... which is why we are where we are. It will continue until the threads die anyway, I wonder who they will blame then.
