If everyone wants dollars, then the price of the dollar increases.
If everyone pays in euros and wants euros instead of dollars, then the price of the dollar drops, and everything becomes unaffordable for Americans.

The biggest demand for dollars comes from the oil industry. Because all oil countries pay in dollars everyone wants dollars. So the Americans stay relatively wealthy.
If you stop paying in dollars, then an economic crisis could break out. So you need to get invaded.

So they better stay close friends to Saudi Arabia. Plus they spend more on their military than Russia.
