Can any Muslim on /int/ explain to me how Islam has changed so much in 50-60 years from when men and women were treated equally? What part of Islam is doing this to people can it be reverted back? Are people happier or are they brainwashed?

I have been living in Pakistan for last 10 years and you would be surprised if I told you that Islam does not promote theocracy; it is the scholars/ulama's that promote the non sense. There are so many reasons behind their motive but I am not going into detail about this topic for it will get too off.
The teachings of Islam is still the same as it was before. Women are bound to hijab where they feel it's necessity. It has also in Islam's teaching that a man ought to keep his eyes lower whenever he faces any woman; unless they are related. Let's say Muslim women in Japan do not feel the need of burqa because Japanese people do not care about any other person's outfits. Whereas in Pakistan if a woman wanders about in the street, she has to face the queer gaze. So here women feel its need to hide one's identity and to avoid the wretch.
I am not sure if that helps. (笑)
It's the governments that have changed. They used to be somewhat secular then something happened and they all went Islamified.

They're just representative of a larger swath of society now. Before, governments didn't even try to administer the country outside of the cities
