Peru hate commies because of what happened with Juan Alvarado in the 70s. He almost burned the country to the ground with his attempt at Soviet-style economic planning and buying a ginormous amount of weapons for a war of revenge on Chile (remember 1881!). Maybe our governments weren't commies, and maybe they were actively fighting the commies inside the borders, but that doesn't mean the leftist militias weren't a threat for the constitutional order.

That's just for Argentina, and it doesn't even include all the communist movements that began to pop up around the 50s and 60s

We can do an experiment: Peru, goes right wing, starts moving forward. Venezuela, goes full left, goes from having oil monies to essentially dictatorship shithole
>>
>>78127148
>Peru, goes right wing, starts moving forward.
Explain to me how Peru is moving foward?
>Venezuela, goes full left, goes from having oil monies to essentially dictatorship shithole
Venezuela has been full left for quite sometime now, also if things were so bad how come people voted Chavez tons of times? Are you saying that not being a shithole is an objective concept? And that democracy doesn't matter
>>
>>78127259
>Explain to me how Peru is moving foward?
Most of their metrics have improved and been constant for 20 years.
>also if things were so bad how come people voted Chavez tons of times?
>Nationalize oil fields, give gibs to the people, lots of them don't even have to work
>people love it
>vote for it
>industries go to shit, easier to import stuff than it is to invest on it and risk the government taking it all away
>oil prices later go to shit
>"oops!"

>democracy doesn't matter
Never said that. In fact it's Maduro the one that disbanded the congress and gave himself way more powers, while also aligning the supreme court on his favor while also preemptively imprisoning opposing politicians with made up bullshit. Not the stereotype of democracy I have in mind. I actually oppose any kind of powerful government.
>>
>>78127520
people voted for that my friend, if anything it's their problem, if it was working for them so be it. Also you seem to think that oil prices came down simply because it came down, and not due to geopolitics and the US influence on petrodollar and oil producing countries, and not due to Syria and Ukraine war. Commodities went down because those that have economical power over the market wanted so, so they could expand their power even further, also because Russia and China were threatening US supremacy especially on the Middle East and South East Asia.
>Most of their metrics have improved and been constant for 20 years.
Metrics mean nothing, especially when it's about GDP per capita and GDP growth, what matters to the local population if all the wealth go to foreign capitalists who give a shit about the country and simply want to exploit cheap wages and a weak government for more profit?
>>
>>78127824
>people voted for that my friend
Yeah, I'll give you that. But recently, Maduro has been fucking up the democracy in Venezuela left and right. They got invited in, and now refuse to get out, and that's how democracies work, not only can you vote for the guy you like, if that guy is fucking up, you vote against him.

>oil prices came down simply because it came down
>Commodities went down
I know there's an oil cartel that moves those prices around whenver they feel like. Practically everyone knows. And the one I expect it to know especially, is the president of an oil producing country. Chavez tied Venezuela's future to oil prices and fucked up the local commodities manufacturing, fully knowingly the OPEC is a thing. He was either a retard, or wanted this to happen.

>Metrics mean nothing
aight, so this turned into muh ideals discussion now? and Peru's Gini index has also improved for the last 20 years. It's better than Brazil's in fact.
>>
>>78127824
You said you visited Peru..Why would you lie? If you've been there you would know..

>>78128076
Yea they even passed us in Hdi. Been there a couple of times and surprised me how organized and structured Lima is.
>>
>>78128076
>Chavez tied Venezuela's future to oil prices and fucked up the local commodities manufacturing
It was already tied up, it's not every country that can get independence of commodities, especially in a country that is in the middle of the Amazon, with little to none infrastructure and education prospects. You can say they can develop these things, sure but for that, especially in LatAm countries and culture you need a strong government
>Chavez tied Venezuela's future to oil prices and fucked up the local commodities manufacturing, fully knowingly the OPEC is a thing. He was either a retard, or wanted this to happen.
>He was either a retard, or wanted this to happen.
I honestly believe is the second option, any oil-based country needs to take sides in OPEC and needs a strong government to able to have sovereignty. Saudi Arabia and every Middle East country are the best examples of that
>aight, so this turned into muh ideals discussion now?
It is always about ideals, there aren't no objective measures, if anything most measures are about economical terms and not really the well-being or the culture of a certain people. You can honestly see that when the most developed and supposed better countries to live are the most depressed ones. Pushing international objective globalization values over a country that doesn't value the values like most LatAm countries is the same as destroying their own culture and country for money, hence why people vote Lula here, or Chavez in Venezuela or Putin in Russia and the international community can't understand it, because ideology, culture and other subjective values play an important part in it
>>
>>78128383
>If you've been there you would know
know what?
>>
>>78128450
>strong government
This is where I'll disagree the hardest. A strong, all powerful government? Sure, give me that, as long as the politicians in charge are the kind of Übermensch gommies think they are. However, if I've learnt anything reading about Argentina's history is that politicians are just humans. Mediocre as fuck, and I don't want to give full control of a country to someone like that. I used to daydream about it, actually, when I was younger and more left leaning. Grew up out of it when I saw that out of 20 presidents we had, maybe 3 or 4 were remarkably good and forward looking.

>It is always about ideals, there aren't no objective measures
wellp, guess I should go ahead and apply any retarded policy I want. There's no way to tell if it's going to be good or bad, anyways. Nope, not at all.
Reading our history also made me realize that, whenever we got trade deals with the US, we got buttfucked. Asking for fair treatment from the entire world is like asking for pears to the orange tree. You can try, but won't accomplish anything. So you better look out for yourself.

You are denying that economic indexs matter to the well being of the population (with no evidences). But you also said you been there. If you had been there and talked to the locals you would know that they are happy and the country is doing well ,(according to you that's the only way to evaluate the well being of the people), in which supports the economic indexs data that the country is improving.

tl.dr you are either lying denying that Peru is doing well, or you never been there, in which case you are also lying
>>
>>78128724
>However, if I've learnt anything reading about Argentina's history is that politicians are just humans. Mediocre as fuck, and I don't want to give full control of a country to someone like that
Yes you are right, just like capitalists are humans too, if anything I am simply saying that because the rich in Latin America would rather gain easy money and enjoy life without working than sweating a day of work and promote industrialization of the country with nationalism, sure there are examples of that, but if anything our culture has this settle down and enjoy life aspect really high, if anything politicians, especially when centered in figures that represent something, they usually need to be a "father-figure" of the country and beyond mediocre, because the country expects them so, hence why Lula, Vargas, Perón, all these guys are loved until today in Latin America, our culture expects things to come simply from the sky, from some "god", from some strong person, hence why industrialization in Latin America is more efficient when it's kickstarted by state, due to catholic values. If we were protestant maybe this would be different
>>
>>78128855
You have only been to Lima and maybe Machu Picchu haven't you? I traveled in a motorcycle from Rondônia to Peru, things are so shitty away from the capital that it hurts, also went to bolivia, I went to Chile and Colombia by plane tho. Also people are happy in Latin America not mattering the circumstances, especially when the media says everyday that their country is growing, also when they like Chile and Colombia ride on the backs of Financial Capitalism
>>
>>78128897
You have any data proofs of what you saying? Last 3 lines is complete bullshit
>>
>you now realize America was as terrible for latam as Russia was for ex soviet states
>>
>>78129265
there is no data my friend, it's just the expectations of the population, every person being rich or poor in LatAm, simply wants an easy life without any trouble. Capitalists since they aren't elected nor are expected to do something, are literally free to do whatever they want, including do nothing and solely win easy money and live in luxury, while politicians are expected to something and always charged for their actions. If there is a politician that like a football player is expected to do everything the people want and even more he will be loved and have the power to do whatever he wants including industrializing the country. Catholicism has no respect for capitalists and bosses but it has completely devotion for father figures and people that give them good things
