Because English used to be a consistent Germanic language until Latin shit it up during Roman times, Old Norse shit it up during the Danelaw, and Old French shit it up during the Norman Conquest.

I don't expect you to be knowledgeable about Anglo history but this is basic fucking events. 1066 is the most important year for England and English.

Pretty safe to assume so. I bet if you look at how people speak in northern isles of britain you'll find something more logical. They speak more like the old english was and how it is still spelled.

You unironically mean 'ironic' instead of 'irony' right?
>>
>>78120889
>>78118430
It's a bit more complicated than that. A good chunk of Spanish's phonetics is fairly recent, I can give you guys some examples if you want.
>>
>>78124013
Do you unironically not understand the difference between 'ironic' and 'irony'?
>>
>>78118200
It's mainly due to the Great Vowel Shift and some deletions here and there. Bullshit like C vs. K, G vs. GU are fairly minor.
>>
>>78120889
Yeah, that's why we have the same vowels as the iberians and basques or don't tell apart the b/v

>>78124173
We simplified six phonemes into three around the 17th century, creating the /x/ and the TH sounds. The ñ also didn't exist in latin. Not sure if it existed in vulgar latin considering italians laso have this sound.
>>
>>78124333
There's also the vowel breaking: /ɔ ɛ/ > /we je/ <ue ie>. AFAIK Spanish was the only language that managed to simplify Vulgar Latin's 7 vowels system.

On the <ñ>: Spanish might not have phonemic length, but there are multiple leftovers here and there like <ñ ll rr> vs. <n l r>. However this is a fairly natural development in Romance languages, not something exclusive to Spanish.
>>
>>78120938

It's not iorn, but iən or iərn. Remember, ə is the most frequently occuring vowel in the English language.

nah you're just a dumb cunt

it's like the french and how they don't have a word for eighty and instead they say four twenties
illogical
>>
>>78134077
I stay up until noonish, go to bed, wake up late (before midnight) next day go to bed early (18-20) wake up around 3-4am and voilá from there it's just small adjustments. So I essentially skip a day. But yeah it only works on vacations.
>>
>>78134187
And the fact that your language allows for situations where "it's not the same word it's just spelled the same" isn't illogical?
>>
>>78118430
>so you basically are called by the mexicas that have nothing to do with you, that sucks
It's hilarious when people LARP as jaguar warriors n shiet when there were only Nahuas in like 1/3 of the country
>>
>>78134203
I never go to sleep past 8am so I can still go out with friends when I wake
>>
>>78134244
well no, those are all perfectly logical because it's all about context.

ie: close
>Will you please close the window?
or
>That place is fairly close to here.

it's very clear which version of close is being used here, and you'd be hard pressed to find a case where it's actually ambiguous/confusing
>>
>>78134471
But those two words are pronounced identically. I get that words can have more than one meaning but that's totally separate from the issue of words' pronounciation being determined by their etymology.

In binland a sequence of letters is always pronounced the same, no matter what comes before it or after or if it's just a snippet from the middle of the word.
>>
>>78134738
Do you have phonemes written with two letters? Like ch?
Or is it always one letter per sound?
>>
>>78113719
you can pronounce the following all the same:
faggat
fagget
faggit
faggot
faggut

It only makes things worse anyway, but the words are actually pronounced differently:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/close#Verb
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/close#Adjective
The verb is pronounced with a voiced s, the adjective with an unvoiced one. The short/long vowel thing was bullshit, but there is really a difference. But it's only further evidence for why the English language is awful anyway.
