why don't americans use their handbrakes when parking?

Unless you're on an incline it's honestly not necessary.
I set mine pretty regularly, but I don't do it every single time and if I don't, then it's no worry to me. The only reason why I do this is because I drove a large variety of fork lifts in an old warehouse job for a few years, and we were instructed to always set the parking brake on any lift once done using it. So this force of habit carried over into my personal life, but only as an OCD habit and not because it actually needs to be done.
i do at home, the path to the garage is at ~30 degrees
What meme is this?

derivative of Americans drive automatics. Parking brakes are used much more frequently in manual transmissions

That's why Chekov from USS Enterprise died.

>What is redundancy
>What is being safe rather than having your vehicle run backwards or forwards into the road or another parking vehicle
Enjoy your inflated insurance rates after you get fucked by your own stupidity

If your tranny is such a piece of shit that the P mode doesnt lock the car in place anymore, and I'm talking about an evenish ground, you've got bigger issues.
If your handbrake is fine, and you have a faggomatic, just put it in park if not on a steep ground.
If your handbrake is fine, and you have a manual, just use the handbrake (slightly) if not on a steep ground. Don't fucking put it in gear unless uneven ground, that's how I'm getting scary jumps when starting my vehicle.
(as I'm writing this i'm realizing using the gearbox makes prob more sense since handbrakes go to shit easily but shhh)

We do.
