No, people in the south used very little the spanish language, the only region of today Italy who used spanish was Sardinia, you can go on the state archive of Cagliari and most of the documents there were written in Spanish, Catalan or Ancient Sardinian. If you go instead on the archive of Naples or Palermo they have only few documents in Spanish, also wrote by the Spanish King or Queen toward the viceroy of the reign. There are motivation why South Italy had lot of great writers who wrote in ancient Italian even on spanish age but Sardinia didn't have anyone.
