Generally yes, I don't really care for military or space settings so I don't find them very interesting. TF2 and Overwatch were probably the only ones I enjoyed and they definitely wouldn't be considered conventional FPS games.
I generally like 3rd person shooters a lot more since they have more original and interesting settings.

There is more to CS than fast reactions. You need to be able to aim, know the maps, know the spray patterns for weapons and so on.
Too autistic for my liking but it certainly does require some sort of skill to be able to play.

>>77973751
I missed MW1 also, but really got into MW2 online. Black Ops was also pretty good, and probably my favourite, but by the time MW3 came out I was tired of the series, especially seeing as they did little to innovate from MW2.
>>
>>77973906
>same audience.
pretty much. Depends on what they are introduced to first. a few like both too. i know some csgofag that starts disliking a game if it gives any fast movement options, as if making the game faster and fun is a bad thing
>>
>>77974001
ive played CS for over 500 hours. yes you need to "know" the maps, wich takes like 5-10 minutes tops and they even give you a minimap.
>spray pattern
nobody should hold down the trigger that long. only Novas and below do it. it makes more sense to do small taps aiming for the head than holding down the trigger and aiming down to compensate recoil, and recoil isnt even that complex to begin with.
>>

do you seriously need more than 5 minutes to learn the basic layout of a not-so-big map? do you need to memorize every detail of a road to ride a bike on it ?
if you can play CSGO decently you can do well in any map. there are usually only 3 main chokepoints in all maps. knowing those is enough for the most part.

Interesting. McLuhan divided media into "hot" and "cold" based on how much information each conveyed, and he put cartoons lowest in temperature of anything visual.

An old nu-eire nordlad used to post this copypasta about how anime was autism because the faces were all drawn very simplistically in terms of facial features and bright and overemphasised usually, and a book I'm reading at the minute which has media as its subject basically said that there's two levels of information density in media: "hot" or information-dense and passive, or "cool" and information-shallow and participatory, and he put cartoons as the "coolest" visual medium, which aligns with what the copypasta was saying about how weebs identified with or associated depth with their characters much more than the bare level of "sola scriptura" could allow.
That said, it's not all negative. He put conversation as a "cool" medium too, and much of what he said about "cool" media is applicable to other parts of society, especially this heavily male internet sphere. Memes would be "ideographs" probably.

>>77974440
I remember having this conversation months ago.
>>
>>77974590
It's surprisingly a common, a lot of games like that are designed around creating an addiction cycle for the player so many continue playing the game long after they've gotten bored of it but are unable to break the cycle. So by the time they finally drop it they've wasted so many hours on something they hate so harbour a strong resentment for it.
It's similar for ex-WoW or moba players too.
>>
>>77974652
I don't think they match with his claims at all. The goal of cartoons, anime or drawings in general are to entertain, not to inform.

>>
>>77974898
Isn't the purpose of hot media to give an objective account of events? To show the user something and not require imagination or interpretation i.e. with the goal to inform?
Is there an example of creative media designed for entertainment which is also considered hot?

People drawn to cool media are surely more likely to be creative types with a vivid imagination who like involvement in their media rather than robotic autists who need to be spoonfed emotion to get involved?
>>
>>77974754
yup. CSGO and MOBAs aren't even that "fun". They are satisfying and might be fun when you crush the opposition, but when you lose they are completely horrendous. And I've seen many people that don't really have fun at all playing CSGO but they still play full of negativity and frustration. It really sucks the fun out of the rest of the team to have someone like that on voicechat.
>>
>>77975035
I think the loot system especially and the way raid lockouts work are specifically designed to keep you playing week after week.
It's in the same category in terms of demanding 10 hours a day but it definitely tries create similar sort of urges in terms of daily and weekly goals which need to be completed within a timeframe to avoid falling behind the curve.

Read the book if you'd like answers to those.
But to answer the first question, no, I think the book is discussing media independent of "content". "The Medium is the Message" is the takeaway catchphrase from it, but I think it's slightly overplaying its hand.
A "hot" medium would be a blaring TV infomercial, but a "cool" medium by comparison could be an academic lecture.

>People drawn to cool media are surely more likely to be creative types with a vivid imagination who like involvement in their media rather than robotic autists who need to be spoonfed emotion to get involved?

Even if the game glitches and fucks up and kills me I will just say "oh well that was stupid lmao" and try again.
>Random alpha early access game has a couple glitches.
People go nuts and scream at the devs on reddit or some shit and demand 100000 differen't things get implemented, which falls on deaf ears most of the time.

Another example. Look at the private WoW community. The community itself destroys it from the inside out with their made up drama and whinging. Even the best servers we have ever had constantly battle random attempts at destroying them from the playerbase because they're unhappy some gm banned a dickhead nobody cares about.

yeah i dislike that kind of people aswell. well, sometimes they would rather blame the game than the teammates, but when its constant whining and negativity its just idiotic, like, stop playing !
i think one of the reason i stuck to TF2 is that people tend to be more chill and losing doesnt feel so hopeless and bad, even against good competitive players.
i almost quit when they forced in that "matchmaking" garbage that almost killed community servers but theres still a few around, and 6v6 is pretty much untouched by that shit

Why do you need naked saunas? And I say this as somebody who loves saunas and wishes that they were commonplace in houses like in Finland. I understand why women may want them as their swimsuits generally look uncomfortable, but I don't really see the difference as a an between sitting naked in a sauna and sitting there in a pair of togs. If anything the togs provide a degree of insulation from the sometimes unbearably warm wooden benches.

That's the only answer I wouldn't have called you a west brit over, actually. Rugby is cancerous compared to any pseudo-patriotic pseudo-war stuff GAA culture might have.
I'm not truly immersed in either subculture, but I would rate the atmosphere at the soccer I've been to as more enjoyable overall than the more numerous GAA matches I've been to, saving the time my county won the all-Ireland, and the local team some other thing.
Probably the average soccer match is fun because it's not over-commercialised or pointlessly over-charged thanks to its lack of popularity with Spurdo-tier "muh county" types, so the culture sticks more to what's actually going on on the field for what it is.
Then again, it might be the speed of the game making it more of a "cool" medium, so the tension is processed better. It also helps not having the crowd hoot every minute or so as points are scored.
>>
>>77979367
Games are constantly held halfway around the country from where the supporters actually are, I mean try making sense of dragging Armagh and Tyrone supporters into Dublin city centre on a busy bank holiday weekend.
Also the competition structure is garbage so most games are mismatches with an obvious winner.

Watching the Armagh v Tyrone game and the atmosphere is dead. The crowd is quiet other than a few people clapping when a point is scored. Compare this to a football match when there is singing, a lad on the drums and perhaps flares going off. Only time you really see a good atmosphere in the GAA is an end-to-end, high scoring hurling match where the crowd is full and they're cheering as the scores come in by the minutes. Football crowds can have a good time independent of how the action is on the pitch.

>>77980018

If the game was in the Ulster championship in either Armagh or Omagh it'd typically have a heated atmosphere from the crowd.

For security reasons it probably isn't a good idea to be using a VPN when handling sensitive data. You don't know what is happening to your data at server side.

Apologies, I meant smoky bacon. Not BBQ.
I'm just going by the original tayto flavours back from the 90's.
I don't think they did anything other than those 4 flavours back then?
>>77981178
Yeah but equally, I don't want my ISP seeing what sensitive data I'm handling. I don't want my ISP knowing anything desu.
But isn't that why you go for a good VPN provider with a reputation for privacy. They don't hold onto any of it.
Unless you go for a Russian/USA vpn but who would do that?
>>77981210
Not crazy about them.
>>
>>77981241
The "luxury" crisp brands are really nice. Once you try them though you'll never go back to stuff like Tayto again.
>>
>>77981273
By sensitive data I mean legal actions like banking information, paypall details, personal address, logins. That kind of thing your ISP will protect but a random Brazilian VPN company may take an interest in.
You use a VPN to avoid a footprint for illegal or grey area sort of actions. Is that what you're concerned about or are you worried about the ISP socially profiling you?
>>
>>77980568
It's more bad because of what it led into than what it was.

>>77981288
Which brands specifically?
I've found the ones that ape the thin, crispy type (Tayto-style) are dry as hell, and the thick ones that ape Hunky Dory are over-flavoured and more like biscuits.
>>
>>77981288
Any recommendations? I had some chili ones a few years ago that were nice.
>>
>>77981377
I'm concerned about both. Most of my passwords are auto-fill anyway. But do you think a VPN could really log key strokes like that?
>>
>>77981241
You should, I recommend chargrilled chicken McCoy's or Thai sweet chili Pringles. Dealz is usually good for stuff like that since their suppliers are British so they sell items not officially sold in the Republic
>>
>>77981384
>>77981425
Try Kettle crisps, most supermarkets have own brand versions of those which aren't bad either. If you live near Marks & Spencers they have an entire isle of those sort of flavours, some crisps and some healthier wholegrain.
Salt & Pepper, Sweet chilli and Honey Barbecue are very nice but I'm sure whatever flavours you prefer will taste well in those brands.

Not logging keystrokes since that's client side but remember a VPN is an intermediary blackbox between you and the web server. You can never be sure what if anything they do with that data you pass to them.
I'd have confidence a reputable ISP like Eir or Virgin isn't going to do something outright illegal like data theft of passwords or banking information but who knows with a VPN offered by a 2 year old company from halfway around the world.

Certain information can be requested by the web server from the client's machine. Relevant information like your browser version, operating system type, the fonts you're using, the resolution your screen is in, language, timezones, plugins etc. Information like that is relevant for uses like how a website knows if you're browsing from a mobile device so it can adjust the screen layout or for what language to display as default.
Dozens of pieces overall and collectively it forms a unique fingerprint if you have in any way customised your browser or machine. This means that even if you change your VPN and your IP address with it your fingerprint will still be the same. It used to be a common way to catch CP viewers through VPN by cross referencing the culpable fingerprint with a database from some commonly used site they have access to. It doesn't prove anything but it gives them a location to search the computers at.
You can avoid it by switching browsers when doing something suspect since it would change the fingerprint. Although they are now devising ways of cross browser fingerprinting which would mean the only safe way would eventually be only using computers on factory settings with no customisation to keep the fingerprint generic.

Oh lads ive been to the malahide parj or whatever its called and its fookin amazing

Good taste.
RO2 is actually capable of being good if you can get into a balanced server with cooperative teammates. Nowadays though it's all hardcore experienced types or outright hackers, neither of which tend to be cooperative.
RSV was full of dumb American kiddies and retards in limbo culturally between reddit and 4chan, so even though you could kill people without getting too invested, coop was fucking awful. Spent most of a lot of games dying on helicopters or getting stomped when on objective because our team didn't concentrate on one objective and the numbers weren't there anyway because of all the people on the perpetually crashing helicopters.

Rome 2 was bad, but not totally unplayable. Empire was worse. Really, CA's problem isn't bugs, it's terrible, low-quality, poorly thought out design. Won't get fixed though because casuals love to buy it because it looks good and has very shallow gameplay, and they don't put in mod support because they don't care about the quality of experience provided, only that it gets enough buyers.
>>
>>77984148
the AI was laughably bad in Rome 2 tho. even now after so many patches, theres some very crappy collission and mass problems. a cavalry charge doesnt "look" right, as the horses instantly stop when they touch the enemy instead of pushing them back or throwing them to the ground.
i bought Attila and its better in every way, i enjoy it so much more.
RSV was really fun in the beta i played. i was playing the ww2 rising storm with some friends this year too. but Red Orchestra 2 itself was a mess at launch, i should have kept my money and waited to see how shitty the game was at release.

There are plenty of competitive league matches that people don't bother to attend, that are played to a much higher standard than camogie/lfootball.
Introduction of the Super 8 and other structural changes in both hurling and football in the coming years will probably lead to a fairly large increase in competitive matches as well.
I just find the womens variants somewhat boring, I guess.

Been years since I was here lads but its still lovely looking. Probably a bit out of the way for spanny despite how close to Dublin it is. Don't think there's any public transport links.

the GAA have been trying to renovate Casement park for years but people before profit and """residents groups""" are holding the whole thing up for no reason other than it makes them feel important

If I was going to another country I would plan a travel route. Otherwise there's not much point in going. If I went to France for example there's no way I'd stay stuck in Paris.

Doesn't look like your man is wearing underwear does it.
>>77988110
That's only Wicklow. You should see Kerry, or Donegal. But they're a bit out there. Too far for spanny.
>>77988425
Yeah it's a fair bit. I wouldn't expect you to go there.
>did u ever travel to a different country by yourself? you'd probably move even less than me
Yes extensively.
I think the kilkenny idea is a good one. It's such a small town and you could do it all in one day.

Look at how small it is http://www.kilkennycityonline.com/images/maps-and-downloads/Medieval-Mile-Map.jpg

3-4 hours is all youll need there, and if you want nature the castle park is really big with forest walks and canal walks etc.

My #1 thing that I like to do in Kilkenny is climcanices round tower. It's scary as heck but fun, nice view too. I just have a thing for Kilkenny.
It's definitely the nicest town I've ever visited in this country.

I hear Westport is on par with it but never been there. Can anybody confirm?

Newgrange? Never been there myself. Seems like a once off thing. There's probably nothing else around there. Do they even have trains going to there?
>>

ah, the icon in google maps made it look like a train.
theres buses going there. you take the 100X to Drogheda and there take the 163 to Bru na Boinne

If I didn't have a limited budget, I'd wander around fairly freely, but I wouldn't stay in one place.
