The whole "pont Neuf" thesis has more credibility, as supposedly it took place on the eve of the French Revolution: about a decade after Parmentier introduced the potato to France, and in a time where there was heavy experimenting with potato dishes to make them appealing to peasants and nobles alike. This is further enforced by an actual source from the time: Benjamin Franklin (who was ambassador to France at the time) in French requestiong "sliced potatoes, boiled in oil" from his French chef. This is the first written reference to French fries we have.

Much like the Belgians do with Ambiorix, the Belgae tribes as a whole (who had more territory in modern France than modern Belgium mind you) and Charlemagne, the Belgians also try to steal French fries from the French. Because Belgium is such a pathetic "country" it has to steal its achievements from a far greater country.

This is true. Still we mastered the art of baking fries before anyone else. We were the first ones that had places where you could buy fries, often during carnival days (before fasting days according to catholic tradition), and American soldiers during WW I discovered them here first.

What I also noticed is that other nations often don't know that you need to pre-fry the freshly cut fries first at 160°C (i.e. almost boiling maize oil) until they "sing", let them cool and drip off the excess oil, and then you throw the cooled pre-baked fries into 180-190°C oil until they have golden colour to finish them off.

If you don't do this you end up with British "chips", saggy fries that are soaked in oil but still taste like boiled potato, and break into pieces when touching them with a fork.

The Dutch make the same mistakes, but they are used to eating shit food so they even take pride in that.
