Post a better government building. If you can.
Ours is an autistic Masonic building

Boring pseudo-Egyptian/Asian interpretation of Neo-Classical laziness
The US capitol building is clearly the height of aesthetics and bravado in government architecture.

>>77887829
they were doing really well with this building until they decided to make the roof like this
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
>>77887483
I really like this building
>>77887829
Legit nothing is going to beat this one tho
>>77887892
Hmmmmm
>>77888046
I gotta take that back, Westminster should have been an obvious one and it certainly can compete.
Ours I wouldn't consider in the running, it is a bit austere, but posting anyway, pretty damn hard to find a picture that will show the full thing.
>>77888194
At least Bellas Artes is top tier
>>77887829
I absolutely love this
>>77888194
>I gotta take that back, Westminster should have been an obvious one and it certainly can compete.
The building itself sure, but the rest of London?
>also there's the Dutch Parliament, that's really nice
>maybe the Canadian one as well
>>77888216
Yeah, sure is. Palacio Nacional is gigantic tho and it does fit a republic. And these are the literal halls of Montezuma. Some nice interiors as well.
>>77888387
I remember reading some old fucking door got set on fire while there where protest or some shit like that, was that its door?
Westminster lite
>>77888419
Yeah, the main door, I'd make some argument about respecting historic places but the reality is that the place does function as the symbolic seat of power even if it's normally a museum. State visits take place here, last one was Merkel I think, and the balcony above the door is the place from which the president of Mexico must re-enact the call to independence (grito) once a year in front of something like a million people. So yeah, a lot of very heavy symbolism in that place.
>>77888356
That would be unfair to London, we are talking a city with also a lot of beauty and history. Dutch parliament might win on interiors.
>>77888611
Function over form. Most of these are immense vast, flat structures, which waste hectares or more space of some of the most valuable land innthr country.
>>77887483
>>77888194
I think I saw a Hungarian poster say that theirs was inspired by ours but I'm not sure. They're both top. Ours is being shut for repairs soon though
>>77888477

>>77888784
>Waste
>>77887829
Glorious.
>>77888848
yeah it was me who wrote that, it's true - for one, the Westminster Palace was the main reason our Parliament was eventually built on a riverfront lot
>>77888611
haha, be glad it was just the door that caught on fire not the entire building. It could've ended up like the German parliament in 1933.
In Hungary we still often say when you're super embarrassed that 'My face was burning like the Reichstag'
>That would be unfair to London, we are talking a city with also a lot of beauty and history.
True, I absolutely love historic buildings and castles in Britain. It's a shame they're nowadays building futuristic buildings.
> Dutch parliament might win on interiors.
Are you certain?
>>77888875
See >>77888807
Palace de Parlamentului is a fine example. A dictators fever dream turned out as one of the largest buildings in the world and several blocks, five curches alone were demolished to make space for this montrosity. The current parliament doesn't know what to do with it. It's unfit for them. So it's pretty much waste, too big to get rid of.
>>77887829
>>77888962
Is it true that the real estate in Budapest is much more expensive on the other (Buda) side of the Danube?
>>77889056
depends on which districts' real estate prices are you comparing
the most expensive properties are in the Castle District and District II though, and they're both on the Buda side
>>77888194
Yeah, and it is surrounded by much better looking buildings.
>>77888784
Well, it's not like we can bulldoze our more iconic 16th century palace just so that a few developers can make a buck building a mall and some posh apartments. One thing tho, that's the executive seat of power, so equivalent to Downing street or the White House, our president also gets Chapultepec castle and an hacienda/compound which is where he de facto works and lives, the other two are museums for the most part so they do get good use. Our congress is divided in two different buildings, lower chamber is pictured. I do like the building you posted btw.
>>77888807
Damn nice.
>>77888848
They're definitively both exquisite. One thing I do like about Westminster is that while the Lords do meet in a very nice room the real seat of power in the commons is far more spartan, I supose they'll be fixing the crowding issue.
>not being ruled from a 1000 year old castle.
>>77888784
>max res
>>77889170
I guess old buildings get a pass simply because they were built centuries ago, no sense to destroy them now. But many of the government buildings built in 20th century seem to be an effort to compensate something, usually lack of wealth, so you end up with humonguous presidential offices etc. built in neoclassical (or worse) style while the national infrastructure is a joke.
>>77889021
That is pretty impressive I'll admit. And no, that was a demonstration that got out of hand, there's also some symbolism to the door burning as students got a door blown on them by a bazooka in 1968 (we had something similar to the French may protests) so I'm guessing a couple of dumb fucks thought they were being clever. Most of the people in there would have probably lent a hand themselves if things had gone out of control.
>>77889169
Palacio is underrated tho, not a lot of people visit and it's got too heavy a weight of history. Tho yeah, Catedral and Templo Mayor are arguably more beautiful, not so sure about the grand hotel and the ayuntamiento.
Pictured the Mexican senate.
>>77889422
I was talking more about these, tho; while not exactly right beside the Palacio (aside from the cathedral), are just a couple of blocks away.
>>77889418
I fully agree, it's disproportionate, the senate I posted >>77889422 was meant to be functional and austere. I can certainly forgive all the marble cladding but it became an scandalously expensive work on largely unrelated reasons. Still it is a bit of a sad building compared to the 19th century neoclassicals in most of the continent. The one thing I will say in Mexico's favor is that its government policy to turn all the impressive monumental buildings that were originally government buildings and "hand them over" to the people as museums and cultural centers, so our government buildings may not be that pretty but everyone can enjoy the country's worthy architecture without bureaucrats getting in the way. Pictured is a good example.

>>77889455
Very sweet, but that's only the entrance. Far more valuable trinkets lie deeper inside...
Those are very nice btw. I like the one on the upper far left side.

THIS DESU
the architect designed everything from textiles to the lamps inside, it's truly a beautiful, inside and out. Bls gib us some credit.
>>77889455
kek, just posted mineria myself, other than the Catedral however those are all late 19th century early 20th century buildings, they don't hold a candle to Palacio Nacional in terms of historic value. They found some of Moctezuma's palace the last time they did a restoration.
