What is the best metropolitan area of the USA?

This is a complicated question...

if we go by population, the NYC/Newark/Jersey City metro area wins with no contest by any other metro area in the USA. It has 20,000,000 people just there, lots of stuff to do with so many people, dating scene must be good, really no city on earth like NYC other than London. Those two are as good as it gets in terms of stuff to do...

but if we take other things into consideration it becomes more complicated. Cancer rates in these areas is high, but seems to be based on the culture of the people, not the geographical area.

New England is by far the most highly educated part of the USA, yet have higher than average cancer rates even when they smoke less and aren't as fat as the rest of the country, barring Maine. It's odd.

adjusting for race even makes it worse. I don't know why this could be so high yet smoking and overweightness/obesity is lower.
