Nixon's record on domestic policy was very weak and iffy, he was strictly a foreign policy president who had little interest in the economy or domestic events. He ended up choking the US economy for a decade by overburdening it with regulations, and he also further expanded the entitlements started under his predecessor.

He started the idea that peaceful coexistence with the USSR would work; although it may have made sense at the time since the US post-Vietnam was in a weakened geopolitical position, the Soviets took it as a license for further adventurism around the globe and finally then Reagan decided again to confront them head on.
