why do you put it like that? i can understand that if you take everything said on this site 100% seriously, then you will have some serious issues acclimating to real life (see: /pol/ /v/ /r9k/ etc). but ive never found that it had that much of a negative effect on my life, social or otherwise. in fact /int/ in particular has unironically taught me a ton of things i never would have known about otherwise (and shown me a ton of cool music). i learned a second language by coming here.

i suppose ive been able to compartmentalize a lot of the nastier shit ive absorbed from the site. better than most i guess. other than lost time spent on the site, i cant really think of anything too terrible about it here. chances are, even if i was a total normie, id probably spend atleast as much time on mainstream social media sites as i do here. id much rather waste my time antisocializing on the web here, than "socializing" over on fuckbook or reddit.

as for your initial question OP, i came here in 07 because my friend was trying to explain the whole boxxy thing to me. i had no idea what the fuck ANY of it was about so he just showed me the site. i still dont know why he even thought it was important enough to explain to me anyway. never spent more than a year on /b/. went straight to /v/. i miss when /vr/ first came out. now both boards suck shit. such is life for imageboarders.

but yeah, a decade here and i dont regret it. the chans are the heart of the internet, albeit a cold, dark, lonely heart. why waste time anywhere but here?

I was surfing for porn in the library on Google in 2008 and the only site that wasn't blocked was/s/. I browsed that for months before I even went to any other board, then I found /b/.

That got really old after a year or two then I went to r9k. Then from there I went to all the other boards and in 2011 or so I found /int/.

This site is definitely absolutely nothing like it used to be, the influx of normalfags Facebook and redditors turn it to complete s***. The only reason I keep coming here as force of habit but I don't enjoy it even though I can't stop. Truly the worst form of hell.
