Hmm, that's an interesting mutation. I can see how hot rods could get associated with the south after the late 1970s due to shows like the Dukes of Hazzard, but proper greasers in the 1950s were actually shared pretty equally in the northeast, south, and great lakes portion of the midwest (pic related). I'd say that they were more associated with northeasterners since the media depicted all of them as Italians and Greeks, who don't really live in the south.
