French Africa is still under a neo-colonial system called "France-Afrique".
For example, their money is the Franc CFA. And they must put their gold in the Banque de France to keep it.
English africa is much more independant, have healthier relation with their previous overlord, and their economy developped accordingly (plus english speaking advantage).

It's bad and good. I'm Asian and have very convincing Japanese accent. People kinda expect you to understand and respect the culture more compared to other foreigners. I had to take all responsibility whenever we were a group of foreigners out and someone was complaining.
People did seem more comfortable with me due to how I looked, but I was still foreign enough to be seen "cool" and "exotic" Had some people tell me they were jealous of me having been born overseas.
