The Infernape I remember being fairly manageable, since the way I tended to win was either with logistics or super-powerful pokemon (my penguin was Danny De Vito tier), and once you can go all-out in accepting damage, it's fine.

As much as I crave the NEET life, I know that the only thing in life that has a chance of making me happy is having a real and meaningful purpose in life. NEET life can never give me that. Granted, non-NEET life isn't delivering in that regard either, but still - there's a chance, right?
>>77363701
Grass is always greener and all that.
>>77363801
With freedom and opportunity you have the chance to discover it. You're certainly not going to find it in the daily grind.
I know being NEET isn't morally sustainable but it is a window of opportunity for learning more about yourself, the world around you and your motivations that you don't really get the time or space for with commitments. The dream being to find that purpose and drive to be able to return to wageslavery with a motivation strong enough to tolerate it.
>>77363801
>I know that the only thing in life that has a chance of making me happy is having a real and meaningful purpose in life
I don't understand why people are always going on about having a purpose. Life has no purpose. If there is some grand cosmic plan then you being happy at your job is probably insignificant in it.
>NEET life can never give me that
I'd say the opposite, I've felt a lot better since I became a NEET. I've been feeling more creative, relaxed and overall content with my existence. I'd rather be lost in a void than being forcibly pushed along something I don't like. In that sense I can say sitting at home and wanking is far more fulfilling than sitting in an office with a bunch of other unhappy bastards feeding numbers to a computer.
>Granted, non-NEET life isn't delivering in that regard either, but still - there's a chance, right?
Your life is stagnant and it won't change unless you change it. No one, apart from the occasional street monk, is going to approach you and try to give you a reason for being. You don't talk to people so really the only thing separating you from a shut-in is leaving the house, you both are still cut off from society.
>>77363880
Maybe I'm unusual in that regard but I can say with sincere honesty that at no point when I was NEET did I think "damn, I wish I could get up early for my commute to work 40 hours this week instead of doing whatever I want." I was genuinely and constantly happy without a job, I was doing productive things, just unpaid which kept me motivated. It was only the financial aspect and sense of guilt which inevitably caused me to settle into work. The grass is a green indulgent pleasure on one side but barren selfless misery on the other.
Similarly during school summer holidays I never thought I'd like to have a summer job instead of enjoying the sun or playing video games all day. I never understood the mindset of people who enjoyed going straight from exams into stacking shelves and then straight back to school again.
>>77363975
>I know being NEET isn't morally sustainable but it is a window of opportunity for learning more about yourself, the world around you and your motivations that you don't really get the time or space for with commitments
When I was NEET in the past I didn't learn much about myself or anything else really. And I certainly didn't find any motivation.
>>77364184
>I don't understand why people are always going on about having a purpose. Life has no purpose
Of course life has no inherent purpose. But the lack of a personal purpose makes it hard for me to enjoy anything in life - everything feels so trivial and pointless. I don't get any sense of fulfillment from life.
>In that sense I can say sitting at home and wanking is far more fulfilling than sitting in an office with a bunch of other unhappy bastards feeding numbers to a computer.
True, but I need the money. NEET life without being financially self-sufficient is stressful and not fun.
>Your life is stagnant and it won't change unless you change it
It was even more stagnant when I was NEET.
>>77364425
When was the last time you felt motivation and purpose in your life?
>>77364313
>I was doing productive things
This might be the difference. If you're just sitting around playing video games there's a sense of futility and guilt that starts in at some point
>>77364313
>at no point when I was NEET did I think "damn, I wish I could get up early for my commute to work 40 hours this week instead of doing whatever I want."
Nobody thinks that. But there are those who are lucky enough to either have a job they enjoy or have a purpose/goal in life that makes the wageslavery tolerable for them.
>>77364468
First semester of college was when I last felt it. It had been fading a lot since the start of the Leaving Cert cycle though.
>>77364313
>at no point when I was NEET did I think "damn, I wish I could get up early for my commute to work 40 hours this week instead of doing whatever I want."
I don't think anyone does but they need/want the money. I'm considering getting a job for a few weeks just because I want a new computer.
>Similarly during school summer holidays I never thought I'd like to have a summer job instead of enjoying the sun or playing video games all day
Same. I had to work experience for LCVP and my parents told me to ask them for Summer work. I didn't ask them about it and then I lied to my parents and said none was available.
>I never understood the mindset of people who enjoyed going straight from exams into stacking shelves and then straight back to school again
There was one Summer I just wanted to go back to school. I was doing nothing I enjoyed, I had no motivation, I never left the house (even less than usual) and all the days melded together. It felt groggy, I just wanted it to be over.
>>77364522
Exactly. For most people, being productive makes you feel like you have some sort of purpose in life and gives you a sense of achievement/fulfillment. But the small scale stuff just doesn't matter to me - I don't get any lasting sense of fulfillment or achievement for completing menial tasks or acquiring useless skills. Maybe my priorities are inherently fucked, but unless I can acquire some overarching goal or purpose in my life, everything I do is meaningless. Hell, I felt nothing when I got my college degree because I had no idea what I wanted to do after college and ended up being NEET for nearly a year.
>>77364530
>Nobody thinks that.
I've heard quite a lot of people become significantly depressed and unhappy when unemployed simply because they miss the structure and routine of working. A lot of people and maybe even most people simply do not know what to do with themselves all day without a job.
>First semester of college was when I last felt it. It had been fading a lot since the start of the Leaving Cert cycle though.
Any reason why? Did you think you were burning out from being in education for so long? I had something similar in college and felt not doing transition year or taking a gap year at some point to give myself a breather and change in routine was a mistake in hindsight.
>>77364626
>There was one Summer I just wanted to go back to school. I was doing nothing I enjoyed, I had no motivation, I never left the house (even less than usual) and all the days melded together. It felt groggy, I just wanted it to be over.
Was that depression or boredom?
>>77364626
>There was one Summer I just wanted to go back to school. I was doing nothing I enjoyed, I had no motivation, I never left the house (even less than usual) and all the days melded together. It felt groggy, I just wanted it to be over.
Last whole year of my life is this
How does one get a job as a sailor? I'd like to be a seaman.
>>77364726
>A lot of people and maybe even most people simply do not know what to do with themselves all day without a job.
Yeah, I know exactly the type of person you're talking about.
>Any reason why?
That's the €1 million question. My depression was starting to become a problem in my final year of secondary school, but college exacerbated it. On one hand I enjoyed my time at college, but on the other it wrecked my mental health. By the time I graduated I was a shell of my former self.
I can't be NEET. I end up wasting my days on 4chan and youtube. It's a degrading lifestyle.
NEET can be a godsend for some folk, but the sad truth is that unless you're raised with a work ethic that allows you to do productive things which allow self-actualisation, you'll degenerate into a miserable and stagnating lifestyle.
Looking forward to college or a job after the Summer's over.
>>77364682
>Hell, I felt nothing when I got my college degree because I had no idea what I wanted to do after college and ended up being NEET for nearly a year
That's a common effect of going from the highly strict and organised primary and secondary education to the carefree college lifestyle. Adults make the mistake of convincing children the world is orderly when it's not. Most of the time the cheater or the liar or the criminal gets away with doing whatever they want. The kid that cheats on his test scores better than the one that studied and suffers no repercussions. There's no order or justice to it yet people insist on saying this is a lawful world.
The world would be a better place if kids didn't grow up in an environment where their authority figures didn't bite their heads off for little to no reason.
>>77364943
>you're raised with a work ethic that allows you to do productive things which allow self-actualisation

I don't think I've ever properly studied. I crammed like hell 20 minutes before an exam but I never took time out in the evening to study.
My principal once told me that I should be getting 7 hours of study a day which I thought was insane. I got home at 5 and they said I should be getting 8 hours sleep minimum which meant I'd have to go to sleep at 11. I don't know how I was expected to have dinner, do my homework, do my chores and fit 7 hours of study into 6 hours. I ended up half-assing my homework just to get it done and still went to bed past 2 most nights.

Pretty irresponsible of a principal to say something like that. Schools are supposed to cover the entirety of the learning requirement with 1-2 hours of homework in the evening as reinforcement of what you learned that day.
>>77365697
>1-2 hours of homework
I would have killed for that little homework. None of the teachers seemed to grasp that we had other subjects. You'd have nights where three different teachers wanted you to finish an exam paper each and two more wanted 10 page essays. It was hell.
