People made food out of what was available, and due to the climate, it wasnt much. Not much grows further north than the south of Sweden.

Since there was nothing available to eat from nature during half of the year people ate smoked fish, fermented fish and stuff like that - anything they could storage over the long cold winter.

I think our modern day food is pretty guud.

I absolutely love it.
We are not afraid of "scary" looking food, roasted pig (complete pig on a stick) is common in the north during Jul (our Christmas)
We had 6 big pig heads on the main table last Jul when all the family was here.
