I think they're a bit full of themselves. The whole cowboy thing seems to have gotten to them and now they think driving around in big pickup trucks (even if they're a wageslave) and obsessing about guns (even though Texas only has mediocre gun culture and gun laws for American standards) makes them more valuable people. Would be a dusty shithole like New Mexico if it weren't for a bunch of oilfields out west. Also in the process of being reclaimed by Mexicans. Easy to make fun of though.

That's rural people in general. They tend to think of themselves as being "proper" and "hardworking", despite being generally lazier and less intelligent. It's pretty much the same shit everywhere, only the whole rural identity smugness thing with the stereotypical parts of Texas has been strongly commercialised and idealised by the media in an ironically Hollywood fashion.
