Bands like Neu! and Kraftwerk as well as Krautrock and the early electronic movement in general had a big impact on a lot of anglo musicians such as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed. There's a reason why so many famous rock musicians of the 70s and 80s went to Berlin to record albums. They've made a fuckhuge contribution to rock music considering they're not an English-speaking country, mostly under the radar but there nonetheless.

They are and aren't the prime example for different reasons.

Their lyrics are very primitive, actually but if you don't speak the language then you don't have very high expectations or a feeling for that.

You have the very same effect in lots of European countries. American pop songs with shitty in ridiculous or shitty lyrics get cut more slack than songs in the actual native languages.

The only reason why they are kind of popular at home are their extreme live shows.
