I swear those views have nothing to do with where you live, it's just a question of how well integrated everyone was in your area growing up. My school, everyone was at the very least second generation, everyone talked to whoever, the school made an effort to prevent cliques forming along racial lines, and as a result everyone has a clear way to self identify without it turning into a weird segregated cluster fuck.

Our neighbouring school had issues where every kid only ever hung out with their own ancestral nationality and it created a tense if not hostile atmosphere that I can't imagine would suddenly evaporate once they graduated.

Fuck all to do with location and everything to do with how you're brought up. If there's never any question of where you belong, you'll come out all the better for it.
