change your language/country on pornhub to the language you are learning.
I write down new words I encouter every day on a list but never more than 15 and keep revising them until I pretty much know most and the I transfer the words I keep forgetting on a fresh new list. Literally all what I'm doing next to using my exercise book and consuming content.

How do you balance this with the study of grammar? That seems like a technique that would work for me, along with passive learning through music and film.

At this point I already have a good grammatical basis, though, I've been using these kind of fill-in exercise books that have the grammar lesson on one page end then training exercises on the other. I note down all the new words I encouter. Usually they have a complete glossary of all except the most basic words in the back.

Ah, you see, I think I'm doing much the same. I've made it a summer goal to study at least an hour of German every day, so I bought a grammar book which goes chapter by chapter, then tests your knowledge with exercises at the end of each one.
I haven't been noting down the new vocab however. I'll need to pick up a small new notebook for that. I feel silly for something so simple not occurring to me.

It's always good to note down/study words as you encounter them in a context whether you use lists or (digital) flashcards.

True. I'm quite new to the study of language if I'm honest, so I really do appreciate your advice.
One more thing if I couldn't trouble you - do you think it's best to learn strict grammatical rules mainly via textbook, or learn them in context? I have a little parallel English - German text of a piece of literature on my desk that will probably be my main source of vocab, but I've heard from some people that immersion really is key rather than learning all the technical jargon, which is what I'm going through at the moment.
How long do you do you guys take to memorise new vocabulary? I'm need some time before I can fully write out a full list without looking.

Mostly by reading be it newspapers or books
Is there an app which allows you to catalogue words with their meanings?
