Learning moonrunes here and I would like some opinions from people who already made it. I've being half assing kanjis for 3 months now and I want to go at a decent pace from now on. I've read some people saying that 20 kanjis a day is completely doable. I know it's a matter that goes from person to person, but how many kanjis a day you guys learned? I find it hard to believe that I could get down the writing/kanji itself/ pronunciation and meaning of 20 kanji a day. Should I just skim over it and just get the meaning/kanji itself and not focus so hard on the many pronunciations it has and how to draw it or I just need to git gud?

Also, any recommendations on a tool to practice writing? I've been using most sites and apps to learn so I don't think I'm doing enough practice with writing them.

So せい in like in 学生 or 先生 is pronounced as せえ and not セイ like, saying せ and い together, but just a long え after せ, right?

I'm doing 20 kanjis a day with KKLC, and 20 cards a day with Core2K/6K. I don't focus on the pronunciations nor the vocabulary in the KKLC, just the meaning.
I'm using a graphics tablet to practice writing, I write new kanjis a few times and that's it.
I'm still a beginner and learnt some mandarin when I was younger though, so don't listen to me.

Frenchie is right, when learning Kanji by themselves, focus on meaning and how to draw them.
You only learn readings in context, from vocabulary. Most people do 20 vocabulary words a day, not kanji. But you can do 20 of each if you feel like you can handle it, it should really strengthen your fundamentals.

Make sure to avoid learning stuff the wrong way. Fixing errors sometimes takes longer than learning things correctly straight away. If you learn a Kanji by writing it the wrong way, and keep writing a certain part of it with the wrong stroke order, you might end up having trouble with looking up a similar kanji because your stroke count for said element is off.

If you talk to native speakers, then make sure to get feedback on everything you're not completely sure about.

I really do have to salute you guys for actually learning Japanese. I've already learned German and I'm learning Mandarin currently, but Japanese grammar looks like an absolute nightmare. It seems to be a lot more complicated than English, German or Mandarin grammar. Plus you guys have to learn Kanji + Hiragana and Katakana. And all the other things associated with learning a language.

What should I recall on a vocab card in anki for its meaning? I'm adding KKLC vocab to a deck and some of these have tons of meanings. For example, 早々 can mean "as soon as", "just after/immediately after", "early", "quickly/promptly", "hurriedly", etc. Just remembering something as simple as "soon (as)/early" seems a little too general.

I guess this question extends to the meanings in the core deck too. Do I recall all the meanings, or a vague term that covers them all at the expense of accuracy? e.g. 下る which has the rather long "going down from a central place or location" meaning in the core deck could just be thought of as a downward motion rather than recalling the meaning exactly as it appears on the back of the card.

Right now I'm strict on myself for recalling all the meanings on the back of each card (in the core deck). For example 大切 has "valuable" and "important" on the back and I'll press "again" if I can only think of a kind-of-similar meaning like "treasured". Would you do this too?

This is how I approach it: anki is a very useful supplementary resource, however it's not an end in itself; we're not using it so we can show off our anki charts. The words themselves exist in an unnatural vacuum, and the sample sentences place you in a random conversation/observation (assuming it's not a mined deck). The amount of time that I would have to spend on anki to recall perfect and complete contextual nuances and differences for each word would probably double the time that I spend on it a day (so about 175-200 cards in 2+ hours, instead of 1 hour). I would rather get the "gist" of the word from anki in a short amount of time, and find it later in media to let my knowledge of it sink in further. Doing so brings a connection to the word, and a deeper interest in it, that I couldn't get from anki alone. So for one example in practice: I'm not going to hit "miss" on the adverb ごろごろ just because I thought "(boulder) rolling" and not also "(thunder) rumbling".

I've finally gotten around doing Kanji stroke order and writing after 2-3 months of anki.
Pretty much have memorized all N5/grade 1 Kanji. It hasn't been bad at all. I've learned a bunch of grade 2/3 Kanji over at anki.

What's the best way to remember all of the uses of に? Keep studying all of the entries for it in the OPs grammar guide until they stick? And don't tell me to read more, I've already read several manga and I end up looking it up every time, that's why I'm asking.
