I think Pax Americana is overstated. It's mostly cooperation with other rich nations that makes the whole thing work, I find it very strange to hear people complain about it as though it's the Warsaw Pact 2.0. We're not holding Europe at gunpoint. When the French asked us to leave, we left, and that was at the peak of the Cold War. When the Hungarians asked the Soviets to leave, Budapest got annihilated.
