Argentina had a stronger military than they do now back then, also the UK was at its weakest point in literal centuries.

On top of that, the UK needed to project power across an entire ocean whereas the islands are at a spitting distance from Argentina.

All in all, it's actually surprisingly funny how awful Argentina performed.
