Hi /int/, is it legal for a western student to use a VPN in order to use social networks such as Facebook or YouTube? I'm going there for about a month and I would prfer to avoid cutting most of the communications with friends in Europe
No, if it was legal then there would be no point to the firewall.
But no one's coming after you so just do it.
you'll be fine
bonus: their cops are probably manlets

'Legality' is a nebulous concept in China. If the government doesn't like what you're doing, it'll take action against you, regardless of the 'legality' of it.
A westerner using a VPN to communicate with other westerners doesn't concern the CCP at all.

You know they have mobile death vans in China right? Knock knock...
I actually read in the Dutch news today that China is now asking internet providers do block VPN services.

No Luigi, you can't teach English illegally there anymore you fucking pathetic loser. Don't even try.
And no, you can't view jewtube, jewbook or google

this, it's more like what they randomly feel can damage or oppose them. By "randomly" I mean they're inconsistent as fuck. Law is meaningless in China, especially when if you do encounter it you can dismiss it with a lil bit of money. Encountering the government of China is not meaningless, however. You can't dismiss it with a lil bit of money. If it's anything big, you're fucked.
VPN is fine, no one cares at all. They could easily document and eliminate users but they don't. Maybe that'll unfortunately change while you're using it, too bad.
there are no rules in china

Yes
Just don't say anti-government stuff
3 million expats do just fine in China. So far

They did that in 2006, 2010, 2012, and in 2015.
It never happens fully. New VPNs pop up
>>77064654
It's totally ok to use VPN.
>>77064654
Yes
But usually the government won't give a fuck especially when you're a laowai. For us there might be a little trouble occasionally though.

When I lived there I used a vpn fairly often, me and friend would show of American websites at school
Is downloading movies off the internet illegal in your country? It's exactly the same thing. Literally nobody gives a fuck about it.
