All of these, I think. It's a combination of aggressive imperialism and something about a free enterprise/free speech model that works, at least for a period of time. We have our bloody history that we like to mask under "muh freedom, muh patriotism," but I think it would be foolish to ignore how our economic system allows companies to flourish without fear of nationalization or sanctions. Even if they are now oligarchies/monopolies that are ruining the American Dream, American companies that net billions annually mean money (i.e. spending->consumption) flowing into the economy.

Also, if we didn't spend so fucking much on military, we'd probably be even more prosperous.

The real secret to the US's success is geography.

1) It has the longest series of navigable waterways in the world, making transportation of goods incredibly cheap.

2) It has the largest chunk of arable land in the world.

3) It has massive deposits of oil, natural gas, and minerals.

4) It's protected from any outside attack. Attacks from Mexico or Canada are basically impossible geographically speaking and attacks from either coast are equally infeasible, especially when considering the strength of the US navy.

On top of that, the US has a relatively healthy demography for a developed nation. There's enough young people to consume goods domestically and enough middle-aged people to provide capital.

Large single market.
A single language.
Capitalism and respect for ownership.
Good universities and a large pool of educated employers to draw from.

this happened to me 13 years ago, before "the knockout game" even had a name; but it was with latinos in Los Angles, not blacks. I just ran away immediately before I even knew what was happening.
