1. Prices are too high for average russian family. Let me tell you, let's say a 2-room apartment costs about $30k. So, the construction companies will build a house for you for $50k or even more. Keep in mind that avg monthly wage in Russia (Not in Moscow or St.Petersburg) is $400.
2. It's fucking hard to get a gas, electricity and water supply to your property, fuck the bureaucracy.
3. Fucking mentality, literally. Soviets told us for decades that if you are living in a village or little town - you are a redneck (дepeвeнщинa in russian).

American cities are made for car transport.
This is just how it is. With time, it will change.
We are already seen some changes and calls for cities to improve their public transport.

But it will probably come to nothing as self driving cars, and services like Uber become more ubiquitous.

You do see the problem with that, I hope. Right?

The US's population density is so low because huge interior of the country is mostly empty space. Except for Scandinavia the EU really does not have that many areas with a very low pop density. On the other hand half of the US has a population density of below 10 people / sq km which skews the average down.

The US northeast megalopolis has a population density of 350 people / sq km and still many people live in houses. It is not just about density.

That map is also misleading for Australia/Canada - most of the country has no people so the population is dense in the populated parts. China and Japan - should be even higher, for the same reason.

>Except for Scandinavia the EU really does not have that many areas with a very low pop density
I can't talk for the rest of EU countries, but at least in Spain we have lots of literally empty space outside of metropolitan areas. Many rural areas are pretty much abandoned, while population density in the cities can reach 10000/km2 or even more. Our 10 most populated provinces have the same inhabitants as the other 40.

Unlike many American cities placed on endless plains, some cities here are surrounded by mountains, so you can't build houses 30km away from downtown because there's no place for them. That's also why flats here are more expensive than many bigger American houses. Real estate bubble didn't help either.

Yes they are, desu. I posted >>77042536 and >>77049180, completely typical and average houses. They are lived in by normal workers and elementary school teachers, and even myself as a single man.

Like that anon said, this >>77049648 is a house typically a polish workders would live in. These are old houses, and not the standard anymore at all, he's not lying. The pic you referring to is even below my own starter house, and I'm just a kindergartenpedagog. Pic related is typically for lower middle class. No doctors or economists will live there.
>>
>>77050283
lmao that's quite the downgrade from the so-called typical houses in Norway other people posted
The picture you just posted is more believeable, i don't really see much of a difference between the houses you just posted and the polish houses.
if some of your countrymen expect me to believe you all live in 3 story wood McMansions, you're crazy.

Hmm. I've gone through all the houses in this thread now, and all of them falls into the realm of average. For example >>77044806 which I think is the nicest one itt posted by Norwegians. This house is average, but could also be upper middle class if it's in Oslo, or even a upper class if it's in the right neighbourhood in Oslo. If it's in my most other cities though then it's average. Meaning I could be living there myself if I had a spouce with the same salary as I have. Average for a couple with normal salaries in other words. If it's a couple whose salaries are both low, then they would be living in something smaller. Perhaps more like
>>
>>77050828
Uncomplete last sentence:
Perhaps more like pic related*

Upper middle class houses aren't necessarily so much different than the three story house I posted, because people rarely buy or build enourmous houses. But you'll see that they have nice houses in nice locations. For example this pic related. This is most certainly upper middle class homes, but nevertheless these houses aren't much bigger than a normal middle class family's house.
