The War of Northern Aggression was about state's rights to keep and bear slaves, although the whole thing is a bit more complex than that. Mostly the South was culturally divergent in some very important ways, and when they sensed that they could not both keep their culture from dying due to external / Yankee political forces and stay in the US at the same time they went for keeping their culture. And since the continuation of the Union was Lincoln's priority, he couldn't let them just leave.

So to the South, it was a war about keeping a (slave-based) culture, while to the North it was about the continuation of the Union (and not slavery).

You're on point with this, the South's choice to stick to slavery no matter what really hindered their economic development, they had no industry or manufacturing capability.

The longer the war went, the worse the odds were for the South. While McClellan was in charge, the Confederacy had it's greatest chance for successfully seceding in that first year when Lee was stomping the North battle after battle.

It's a fascinating conflict once you look past all the humanitarian bullshit.

Assume all the Canadian posts are me guy, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one posting.

Now, when it comes to that ship, I can see that being contentious. Not that I think it going into southern waters started the war, but it definitely pushed war well onto its way. But acting like it moving through debatably foreign waters is an act of war than the world should just be wrecking China right now.

As for the symbols, I say what I do because of similar world events. Like how Germany doesn't fly the swastika flag anymore because of the holocaust. Even though the war wasn't about the holocaust, it was inhuman what happened. The same can be said with slavery. That's why I can't understand why you guys keep that flag. Even if you don't agree that the Civil War was fought for slavery, isn't it an overall good that it ended?
