In the north of Portugal they call it "prego no prato."

I googled that and that just looks like any stake with fries. Bitoque usually is marinated in wine.

That's not a particularly good-looking bitoque, desu.

Rich is usually white, and te meat is usually paler as well.

Eh, bitoque is a bit of a meme food, the only redeeming quality of which is where it is marinated. We have better stuff to offer, desu.

Carne de Porco à Alentejana is GOAT tier, but it's pretty much low-effort comfort food. It's weird that you'd come here for something that restaurants crap out to large drunk student gatherings, kek.

Weird. Around Coimbra I only see it with white rice, but I guess that's not that important. That steak looks a lot better prepared and coloured than the OP image, though.

But bitoque is a working man's food, not really something you'd come here for. We have much better and more unique ones, desu.

All patrician choices, desu. Pastéis de Bacalhau are probably the best thing we ever made with the Portuguese Empire.

I sometimes get sad when Americans come here and eat only Francesinhas and Bitoques or, god forbid, McDonald's.

I know some of you guys hate fish on principle, but coming to Portugal and not trying fish is criminal.

>>76980913
Learned it from Brazil, too. Memes aside, Brazilian food is pretty great.
>>
>>76980985
>I sometimes get sad when Americans come here and eat only Francesinhas and Bitoques or, god forbid, McDonald's.
I ate at McDonald's once or twice during my last trip, but my local friends were being plebs and insisted on eating at mall food courts. I tried to at least have H3 in some of those cases.

I wouldn't really bash francesinhas, they're pretty unique. Some are better than others though, and the sauce really makes it.

>coming to Portugal and not trying fish is criminal.
I never actually had any shellfish when I was there, but I'm possibly allergic so sadly I couldn't try any of that on this trip.

A friend of mine also talked me into trying pig's ear. That was... different.
>>
>>76980688

>It IS pretty good, though.

it is... also rojoes, papas de sarrabulho and so many shit i can't remember right now, I always return heavier from there, best thing from portugal is the food and the landscape, my GF always asks me to stop in Porto in a "pastelaria" near that mcdonalds made in a really old coffee shop near the city hall to eat some pastry called "agua na boca", I always bring Broa when returning to spain.

fuck, so many good memories from when I didn't had to work... we used to go for Sao Joao, stay at some friends house and eat sardinhas con broa is the streets, it's amazing how people bring tables to the middle of the street and start making sardines everywhere, broa.... good wine and just talk around the fire, I missed those days, shame I have to pay for my own mortgage now.
>>
>>76980806
Mine is Portuguese and Spanish
>>
>>76981110
Our Shelfish game is pretty good, but for the best you'd have to go to Galicia.

Also, nothing wrong with Francesinhas, mind you. It's just the most American-friendly thing we have. Definitely try them, but try other things too, which it seems like you did.

Our Food courts aren't anything special, although they usually serve a cheap version of Brazilian Churrasco that's not as good as a Rodízio, but it's definitely not bad at all, either.

>pig's ear
Yeah, not my thing. My grandpa eats it like it were a steak, though. He fucking loves that.

>>76981144
>Sardinhas com Broa in the street
Fucking based. They're only good in the summer, which is a shame, but it also makes you appreciate them more. Eating them with Broa is the patrician way. With potatoes on a plate is not the same. The best Portuguese food is the ones we eat without cutlery.

>Rojões/Papas de sarrabulho
Also good choices. Sarrabulho is usually very hit-and-miss, glad to see you liked it.
>>

>>76981342
>It's just the most American-friendly thing we have
I can see that, but it's still way different from anything we have.

>Our Food courts aren't anything special
The thing I really liked in them was H3. I usually had the tuga, the sauce was bretty gud.

I also tried the McBifana just for the meme, it was, well, how I'd expect a McDonald's version of a bifana to be. Cheap ass bread and ground up pork.

I also went to grocery stores and tried local cured cheese, presunto, and chouriço.

The ones I posted (the green ones) It's just kale (couve-galega), black-eyed-peas and shredded cornbread, soaked to the brim with olive oil and garlic and served warm. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but it's great, especially if you balance the kale and the bread so that you don't get too much kale in each fork.
