Is there anyone here who can read and write Urdu? The Pakis seem to have disappeared from /int/. I don't get how Hindi can be written in an Abjad like Perso-Arabic. Devanagari seems to fit so perfectly for Hindi. Since Urdu, Punjabi and Sindhi have similar so similar phonology to Hindi, how exactly can you fit them into the Arabic script? Since vowels are not written, does that mean goli and gali have the same spelling? This thing works for Arabic but Urdu is definitely not that kind of a language. I know this sounds like a very stupid question, but someone please redpill
me about this. Also do they differentiate between say galat and galti or garam and garmi? By putting those dots over the letters like in Arabic (line kitab, katib etc).
Note that all three languages, Urdu, Punjabi and Sindhi are written in a Brahmic abugida in India so the whole Brahmi structure seems to fit perfectly for these languages.

Oh damn I fucked up. Garo isn't Austro-Asiatic, it is Sino-Tibetic (like Manipuri and Mizo). I confused it with Jaintia. Actually I don't know anything about these languages and was only saying things from having read it somewhere once. Northeastern languages except for Assamese and Manipuri are rather bleak and insignificant and not too many people know about them outside these states. Assamese and Manipuri have proper literature and written form and are taught in school, but Mizo, Garo, Khasi and all the languages spoken in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are generally seen as "tribal" languages and do not have much history of being treated as written languages (like Mayan languages in your country).
Apparently Khasi, Vietnamese and Khmer all belong to the Mon-Khmer subdivision off Austroasiatic so they shouldn't be too dissimilar. But note that while Vietnamese is hexa-tonal, Khasi is non-tonal. Also the Vietnamese anon couldn't make heads or tails of what was written in that Khasi text, so idk.
All I know properly is that there are three main languages in Meghalaya, Khasi (Austroasiatic), Garo (Sino-Tibetic) and Bengali (Indo-European), in order of how many speakers. Bengali is generally the language of upper class people in Shillong. My mother lived in Shillong where she could communicate with the common people in Bengali. She used to address the maid working in her house as "Gang" which is the Khasi word for sister. She also said once that although the Khasi are matriarchal, the women would work very hard for the family while the men would like about smoking cigarettes or something like that. That's all I know about Meghalaya and I've never actually been there.

Thanks for the info, I'm a sucker for random trivia about languages I'll probably never even get to listen. It's funny how an apparently relatively minor language in India (like, say, Khasi) is still spoken by more than a million people (i.e. 1/6th of the population in my country). It's not entirely true. In Classical Arabic there were 3 short vowels (a, i, u) and 3 long counterparts.
The short vowels can be shown with harakat (diacritics) but generally they are omitted unless we're talking about religious literature or quotes from the Qur'an.
