Holy shit, lads. I never realised I could just click through the "Please enable the Wii U gamepad" messages with an OG Wii remote, I thought before that they would just keep coming if I tried to click through. Set it to high performance in every option I could and performance for the rest. Also turned off all the unnecessary shit like shadows and particle effects. Before our matches I only played it 2v2 with computer players offline and that worked fine even with higher settings.

Sorry for dropping out unannounced but the game was frustratingly close to being playable. Most of the time it ran fine which gave me a bit of hope but it ran into problems as soon as I was close to several players at once, which is a big problem when trying to get near the ball. Sometimes I changed direction wildly or went way faster than I should have been out of nowhere.
I tried lowering the resolution again and this time I could do a 4v4 AI match fairly alright. The drawback is I'm now playing with below PS1 level graphics.

Also Froggy sorry for not answering your question but the chatbox kept cutting me off between matches. I'm also not the fastest typist. The sound effects of the cars revving kept stuttering and it sounded like Hell. I turned down the effects volume because it was driving me demented.

And Jaggy same as above about your question of the red triangle. Sometimes I would see this red triangle like a traffic sign show up on the screen with an unhooked cable symbol within. Googling it it seems to be about server lag, which makes sense.
Fuck I hate how unpredictable my internet is. One match I was only a few points higher in ping, the next match I was more than 100.

I think what might help too is if I run the game through my TV instead of my monitor. I'm not used to playing high intensity games sitting this close to a screen - that's what my consoles are for.

They actually redesigned that Tokyo map recently without the ramps since those ramps were so unpopular. I think you can only play that version in private games now, it's no longer in the ranked rotation.

You can get an official XB1 controller for about €60 and they have built-in bluetooth connectivity for use with PCs. I have one of the earlier XB1 controllers without a Bluetooth connection, so I use a USB connector (which is sorta fucked at the moment).
