I started learning Yiddish because I will be joining Hillel at my university. What's the best way to convince the Jews that I am a Jew? I already started learning about your foods (Matzo soup, bagels with lox, etc) and special occasions like bar mitzvah and Yam Kippur. Knowing this, do you think I can pass as a secular Jew? I'm shvitzing as I write this. I don't want to come off as a convert -- I will claim to be a Jew by birth.

what does joining Hillel mean

Hillel is an organization at universities in which Jews, Zionists in particular, congregate to keep their traditions alive and advocate political issues.

Nobody except for ultra-orthodox autismos will care if you are 'by birth'. Honestly you'd be better off just learning as much hebrew before you move, it's a hard language for native anglos to learn.

I'm not moving. I am just joining a Jewish organization at my uni.
Are you 3/128 ""native"" jew

I'm not Jewish. I just admire them and their history, and I would like to join this Jewish organization.
