I don't think there's a fix. I don't believe we'll recover anytime soon. Too much corruption, Maduro has control of everything, and neither him or Diosdado have any intention of letting go. People's morale are low, and more and more people don't care anymore. Of course, adults are not helping at all because they're afraid of losing their jobs, so all the weight of protests fall into students and young adults. Those who haven't left the country already, anyways.

Though considering that we spent 14 years being brainwashed over a personality cult around Chavez, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm going to Colombia. Depending on how things go there I would go somewhere else. Many Venezuelans are fleeing to Colombia, so they're having their own refugee crisis with so many Venezuelans going there. Depending on how things go there, I might stay for some time or leave somewhere else as soon as I can.

People tell me I should go to USA, but I'm not sure. Trump isn't very friendly towards immigrants, and I've heard there's been trouble with them ever since. I'll try to get in by legal means, but if I can't, I'll go somewhere else that's still friendly to immigrants (I heard Canada or Australia are still open, I might try my luck there).

Just today I took a taxi to the mall and we got caught by some kids trying to loot a food truck. They tried to block the road and started to throw stones at us to force the car to stop. Of course, the driver wasn't going to let them, so he went anyways, nearly killing one of the kids. Nowadays is dangerous to go outside because there's protests everywhere.

The worst thing is that people still have things to do, so they have to go outside anyways and risk their lives.

Our problem is corruption. A lot of corruption. Maybe socialism was a mistake since the beginning, I'm not sure, I rely on what I see, and what I see is corruption. But what I'm sure is that the government does whatever they want, when they want, and how they want, with no concern of what the people want or not. It's been a long time since we had elections besides the ones in December. Most of the governors and other figures that were previously elected by citizens are now handpicked by government officials.

There is no democracy. The people don't have a voice anymore, not one that the government bothers to hear anyways. They arrest anyone they want, torture people, and kill anyone without facing the consequences.

Honestly, ask any venezuelan and all this talk about socialism or totalitarianism doesn't matter because government officials do whatever they want and no one can stop them, this is what they see and what they experience. Is this socialism? Marxism? Does it matter when your neighbor gets killed and you have no hope for justice, because they get away with everything? Or when you can barely give your kids three meals a day because the so-called food boxes the government was supposed to provide for the people only get to chavistas in high positions? When non-profit organizations that were supposed to help people only get support from the government if they get their vote?

Ideologies fall apart when politicians manipulate them for their own benefit. This is the truth every venezuelan has come to know.

Well, things are different in the Capital, or so I heard (I don't live there). I heard people don't have to make long lines to get products at the market, and that there are still zones where the upper class lives that are relatively safe.

Not the case in the rest of the country, though. Where I live it's foolish to take your phone out, because any biker can pass by and take it away. Roads can be blocked by protesters at any time of the day, too. It's pretty dangerous. Some cities have been taken by the army almost completely, so it's not safe to be out.

If he was in the safe zones in Caracas, he might have a different experience. The Capital always has it better than the rest of the cities, after all. On the other side, it's where the worst protests happens too.

Still pretty stupid, though, he deserves it.
