It's an English word. It can mean:

1. A food stuff, a ball of seasoned meat
2. A bundle of sticks
3. Slang for a homosexual person
4. French OPs

Funfact, "Fagot" also means a bundle of sticks tied together in French.

No idea who stole it from who.
>>
>>76589072
If it's Latin it came from you
>>
>>76589072
Like 50% of their words, they stole it from us
>>

So who's the real faggot?
>>
>>76589101

It seems to come from an ancient Greek word, the latin, all the way to now. Interesting.

Everything makes sense now.

faggot (n.2)
"male homosexual," 1914, American English slang, probably from earlier contemptuous term for "woman" (1590s), especially an old and unpleasant one, in reference to faggot (n.1) "bundle of sticks," as something awkward that has to be carried (compare baggage "worthless woman," 1590s). It may also be reinforced by Yiddish faygele "homosexual" (n.), literally "little bird." It also may have roots in British public school slang noun fag "a junior who does certain duties for a senior" (1785), with suggestions of "catamite," from fag (v.).
The explanation that male homosexuals were called faggots because they were burned at the stake as punishment is an etymological urban legend.

faggot (n.1)
late 13c., "bundle of twigs bound up," also fagald, faggald, from Old French fagot "bundle of sticks" (13c.), of uncertain origin, probably from Italian fagotto "bundle of sticks," diminutive of Vulgar Latin *facus, from Latin fascis "bundle of wood"

We can.
>>
>>76589072
in my dialect "facina", "faz" or "faxu" mean a bundle of sticks tied together.
In spanish it is "haz", althought it looks nothing like "faggot"
>>
>>76589724

What dialect? It seems closer to latin than Spanish.

Asturian, it mantained the initial "f" of words. It is a language, by spanish standards. Maybe for a frenchman it would sound as a dialect.
for example: "hacer" would be "faer" (faire)
Beach is "sablera", and sand is "sable" which I think is the same in french (?9. Not the same in spanish.
>>
>>76589072
this is a fagotto too:

>>
>>76589974

Sand is also written as sable in French, though I guess it doesn't sound the same. I'll look into Asturian, ethymology is fun
>>
>>76590034
It is pronounced as in spanish, we have the same vowel system. The only different letter we have is "x" which is pronounced "sh". For example "trip" would be "viax" (viaje in spanish, voyage in french).
Some asturian dialects have their own sound, called the "underpointed l" which is like the "t" in "to" in english, or a "ts". But it is not very common.
For example "sheep"
oveja in spanish, oveya in my asturian, but "ovetsa" in some other asturian
>>
>>76590145

Interesting! So there are ever smaller dialects in Asturian. Thank you.
>>
>>76590244
Yes there are 3 or 4, but most people speak central asturian. I hope you enjoy it.

Please stop having an interesting and civil conversation in my shitpost thread.
