Soviet Union ensured that the alexandrov orchestra and other state musical collectives portrayed SU in a positive light. Think of it like propoganda. Obviously most of their music wasn't aimed at foreigners (being in Russian) but towards domestic consumption. Stories of war heroism, faith in their leaders etc.
