Well, it's not like Chinese Millenials care about North Korea anyway, actually Kim Jong Un is regularly mocked on the Chinese Internet and people make snarky comments about how North Korea looks like China circa 1971. Maybe old people still care about the place.

China actually has multiple layers of buffer zones, Manchuria, Guangxi, Sinkiang, and Tibet serve to put some distance between the Han Chinese population and Russia/India/Vietnam.
