Why are westerners so unknowledgeable, even if they are in EU

The thing that makes me laugh is how little Germans know about the EU. They cry about how the media makes it out like a Fourth Reich but that's exactly how they seem to think it works

why are easterners so butthurt at us even though we take you in the union and drag you out of the shit
is it jealousy ?

People aren't really that interested since Brussels is a place far away and doesn't feel to have a much of an impact to your everyday life.

Same thing goes for NATO, very few actually know how the organization works. Yet, people have very clear opinions about it.
