Belgium is split into two parts (well, three, but the German part is irrelevant as it's tiny). Brussels was historically Dutch-speaking but has been completely Frenchified.

In any case, the two parts of Belgium of Flanders and Wallonia. Flanders is Dutch-speaking and thus Germanic, Wallonia is French-speaking and thus not Germanic.

Flanders is superior by pretty much every measure. Whereas Wallonia is quite literally one of the poorest regions in Western Europe (Charleroi knows no parallel in shittiness), Flanders is actually one of the richest regions in Western Europe. The disparity is quite huge. This is because Flanders, which was historically Dutch, was for a long time the very center of the Dutch lands, in terms of population density and in terms of scientists and writers and such. As a matter of fact, the Dutch Golden Age was kickstarted by the Flemish fleeing the Spanish in Flanders.

In Switzerland, you can roughly divide it in three parts - French, Italian and German speaking.

The German speaking part forms the vast majority of the GDP. It's the most conservative, and while the German and Italian parts where in favour of the minaret prohibitions, the French voted against it. Luckily, the German and Italian parts together have a sufficiently big population to decide most referendums. The French Swiss are much more liberal and if it were up to them, Switzerland would already look like France. It doesn't, basically of the conservative German part.

The German part is also responsible for the majority of the GDP and has the highest GDP per capita.
