Sort of true. Urdu in old turkish means army or barracks, and later in English it got the meaning of "horde". It got this meaning as Urdu is a melting pot of many languages that was primarily developed in the army of the Turkic rulers.
Urdu is actually valuable if you're an American and want to do government or military work, they're swimming in people who speak European languages, people who are competent in Farsi or Urdu are much rarer and in high demand with the current political climate.
