would love to visit Slovenia and Finland as well, but I probably won't have enough money to do it this year

1. Best

unironically Sweden, but I never went into any bigger cities, so that's probably why

2. Worst

Idk man some of your regions are distinct enough to warrant having their own zupanje.
Krapinsko Zagorska for example is way different than Varazdinsko despite being right next to each other.

In any case, it's just a first-level administrative subdivisions map, and for Croatia that's the zupanje.

How is that possible?

I went to Serbia and Romania this year and the difference was like night and day lmao.
Serbia may be poorer as far as GDP per capita is concerned but shit looks like Central Europe there, hardly any different from Hungary.
Romania on the other hand looks and feels like bizzaroworld stuck between Ceausescu commie blocks and fundings from Brussels.
>>
>>76512894
Hostels are good, especially when you're travelling alone. Makes it much easier to make friends.

I've been to Timisoara. The old town is alright but frankly, very run-down and tiny compared to the ocean of commie blocks surrounding it.

Don't get me wrong I greatly enjoyed Romania for what it is. The people are hilarious and the nature is stunning but man when I entered your country from the Hungarian border at Satu Mare I was thinking "Yes, this is the Eastern bloc". There's a certain charme to it though.
When I went into Serbia at the Vidin-Negotin border, I felt I got back into Europe.
>>
>>76513890
OOOOOH, you've been to Vojvodina mostly, that explains everything.
>>
>>76513890
well fine then, i see you've been in vojvodina which is the best countryside out of all you could see here. you can visit everything south of it next time if you're interested, and you'll see drastic difference
btw, i live in the most southern city in serbia though and i have never been in romania
>>
>>76514000
I was only in Bucharest for some hours, didn't have time to see much.
But I will definitely visit it again in the future, last year I went to the Baltics, now to Belarus and Ukraine, next will be Romania (and Moldova.)
>>
>>76513988
And they ran it into the ground man. I imagined Transylvanian towns to be better-looking than Wallachia's but the difference is marginal. There's some more old Central European architecture but it's all so poorly maintained that it hardly makes a difference.
>>
>>76513644
so much this
>>
>>76514065
>>76514073
Vojvodina was only half of it. I spent the other half of my time in the districts of Bor, Zajecar, Podunavlje and Branicevo. Vojvodina was very nice yes, but not that much nicer than the non-vojvodinan Serbian territories I went through. Even those are MILES ahead compared to anything you see in Romania. Less trash (still some though), better looking towns, people actually talking care of their backyards, less strays, less gyppos, more civilized dogs, better roads etc.

>and i have never been in romania
You'd be surprised how far ahead you are m8.
>>
>>76514133
Cut them some slack, they had to go through communism and even worse - Ceausescu . They are getting better at an OK pace atm.
>>
>>76514272
economically Romania is way ahead of Serbia and the gap is widening desu. What you see are remnants of Tito's Yugoslavia,
>>
>>76514272
well i suppose yeah, we really made most of our countries during yugoslavia through funds from both USA and Russia, but we stopped from the moment when they did. i suppose in 10 years we'll look like romania now and romania will look as far european as it can

>>76514278
they recently surpassed croatia in gdp
they're recovering slowly but steady, yes
>>
>>76514278
I'm not bullying. Romania is hilarious, had a great time there.

But half of Europe went through communism. That's a poor excuse.
>>
>>76514459
>But half of Europe went through communism. That's a poor excuse.
it's not, since we were the best pseudo-commie country in europe out of all of them
hell it wasn't even communism like in the other countries, it was some form of socialism and the old people generally miss such times because they were good for living and most of them enjoyed it
>>
>>76514459
yugo communism was way different than in other countries... yugoslavs were kings compared to hungary/poland/romania/albania etc
>>
>>76514362
>economically Romania is way ahead of Serbia and the gap is widening desu.

Yeah I know but it doesn't show. The Serbs just seem to be running their country a lot better despite being poorer. Shit looks and feels way more developed than Romania.
>>
>>76514626
well, we do like to live our lives like we're rich despite everything, that i can attest :^)
>>
>>76514571
>>76514547
Yeah I know, Yugoslavia went their own way thanks to Tito.

But still, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the Baltic States also experienced 40-50 years of Soviet cucking. And none of them are as bad as Romania.
>>
>>76514571

>>
>>76514459
>>76514730

The economies of the countries prior to ww2 and before the end of communism is also relevant. Also Yugos didn't really had to go through the same shit. The war is what fucked them . I'm from Bulgaria and the way Romania is progressing compared to us is impressive. Mainly the way they tackle corruption. they had a GDP growth of 5,5% last year I think. Maybe you are right, but in a few years things won't be the same.
>>76514751
not rly but u had it good too after the attempted revolution
>>
>>76511082
You that EVN guy?
>>
>>76514730
you're right about that
ceausescu cucked them even harder than soviets, i agree. but the similar situation was in bulgaria and albania though, they're all still recovering from hard dictatorship of their commie leaders

and the fact that central europe always belonged to richer part of the europe through history, while we were under ottoman's booth for ~400 years more or less before that
>>
>>76514730

it was more of a socialism than communism.
actually, not only was it better than the
communism in the rest of europe,it was
betterr for us than the system we have today.

the better architecture, the different mentality,
that little advance that we have compared to
romania, it's all a leftover of socialism. after the
war we haven't built much new, we struggle
even to paint the facades of our glorious
socialist buildings. luckily , it isn't even
necessary, because the buildings are still
top quality

I also went to Bulgaria this year and from what I have seen it does seem to be even somewhat worse off than Romania. But I've only been to the Northwestern part of the country which isn't exactly one of the most prosperous regions of the country as far as I know, kek. The Hungarian countryside really isn't that bad. Not quite as tidy and pretty as their Western European (that includes Slovenia) counterparts, granted, but by and large fairly alright. Way closer to, say, Austria's countryside than Romania's.

Worst
Finland - things didn't work out with bf

in all honesty, I liked all the countries but I spent far longer in Finland, and really enjoyed getting to know the history, the people, learning some of the language, etc. All countries were great, although in Stockholm people were kind of creepy (I did visit northern Sweden too and it wasn't like that), Stockholm had the coolest places to visit but I guess the people there qualify as the worst part of the trip.

Norway was a bit disappointing too, in that the landscapes were great but similar to what I've seen in Chile before anyway.

Yeah well.. Istanbul wasnt better. The city itself was more modern but the people were equally retarded.

Turks are the most aggressive people I've met abroad.

>Best
Krakow, went there as part of a hiking trip to the tatra mountains in sout Poland. Krakow has good beers and nice architecture

>Worst

My friend and I lived in a hostel there. If I remember correctly it was about 5-10€ per night. The hotels are probably a bit more expensive. Also if you're interested, Auschwitz is 1½ hour drive from Krakow, so that's worth going to as well.
The hiking was amazing, the Tatra mountins are really beautiful, with some nice trails, and hostels to live in up in the mountains.
Pic related.

It would probably be way more if my brother didn't have an expensive medical episode always right before or after we went on vacation.
