Because all the native Australian animals are fucking retarded and walk in front of moving vehicles. Natural selection will eventually stop this mess (in more populated regions at least).

I drove a bit in outback Australia and always slowed down when there was a kangaroo or emu near the side of the road. more often than not i was right to slow down. There were some places where I swear the road would be stained blood red for miles.
