Egypt and Persia both fit the bill for being a superpower at their peaks, meaning they were by far the most powerful thing in the world.

And Italy and Spain are first world in most ways but their economies are second world

Egypt and Persia were regional powers at best, they simply didn't have any power projection or even continental reach. Same could be said for Rome, to some degree, but they at least controlled the entire Mediterranean.

If your definition of a superpower is the current most powerful entity at the time, you'd have to add several more countries to your list.
