let me help explain some issues people have in this thread

1. weather: we have air-condition coverage everywhere. not much of a big problem

2. cost of living: still cheaper than cities such as NYC, London and the other global cities

3. cost of owning a car: public transport is very efficient. you have almost no need for a car

4. political system: our political system helps to enact laws faster and avoid bureaucratic redtapes. it may not be the best but it works better than most governments in the world

5. drug laws: anybody for drugs are fucking liberals/hipsters and deserve to die. no explanation required

6. muslims: believe it or not, the muslims in our country are not like those in yours. they are hardworking and most of them aren't fundamentalists

1. the cost of housing here is an issue inherent in all global cities. the older flats look like commie blocks because at the time they were built, design/look was not an issue. housing people was the main issue. the new flats nowadays have better designs.

2. i can't say how authoritarian or not our workplace culture is but we probably has done something right. we are consistently in the top 5 of the best countries to do business in. 50-60 hours work week is not even mandatory but because people work hard and are very competitive, you would have no choice but to work even harder if you want to be noticed or progress through the ranks.

3. we have already done our best to retain historical buildings. we are but a tiny island and only 52 years old. this brings me back to my first point. we had very little time to develop our culture/identity when we got independent. survival was of the utmost importance back then.
