However, I can acknowledge that the EU is too technocratic. A transnationalisation of democracy would be the right answer to this problem.

People are understandably clinging to nation states because they sense this de-democratising of governance, but these can no longer work in face of globalised markets and multinational conglomerates. That would mean a complete abdication of politics.
