I lived in Riyadh for 2 years because of the job of my father and had the luck to be able to travel most of the peninsula during that time.
Oman has a very rich history due to being involved in the spice trade, they aren't as rich as the petro-states though, I am not quite sure why actually, maybe they just don't have enough oil reserves.
Either way, Oman is a very nice place to visit and it also has a fuckton of Western tourists.
This is a pic I took there. That was like 7 years ago or something like that.

Then, even in Dubai, you have the neighborhoods they don't show on TV (where all the Pakistanis live). And most other emirates in the UAE aren't as good as Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Yeah it's pretty nice, the food there is cheap and the weather is cool and humid unlike the rest of the peninsula.
I only went to forts and Bazaars in Muscat, other than that I didn't go through much.
