In truth, even if it wasn't for anime I don't think it would be much different. After the second world war most American genuinely like Japanese people. Some might be still pissed about Pearl Harbor, or your war crimes, but your country, and it's culture are genuinely interesting.

And on top of that are governments are incredibly intertwined, so it's not like Japan wouldn't have any influence.

I mean, Japanese anime is one of the medias that introduced Japanese culture to foreign countries, especially to Korea and China or even to America. without animation, i doubt if Japanese culture would have been influential like how it is in nowadays
