The UK has one of the most advanced and well-funded air forces in the world, any attempt at getting near their island would be extremely costly and difficult and would be more economically devastating for the attacker than the defender. That's not even taking into account the Royal Navy which is second only to the US Navy.

Ultimately the war at sea and in the air would be one sided, but the UK can't really do much to Brazil itself other than bomb it, maybe assassinate some people with the SAS, but not much more.

Your colonial war had a much greater military success because of a different domestic climate at home. Idk why so many people overlook this. What stopped the US from winning in Vietnam was fierce domestic opposition. US soldiers had to show relative restraint due to fears of a PR disaster (and when they didn't show restraint, like at My Lai, the entire war effort suffered). You can't win a colonial war like that. You have to be absolutely brutal, and in order to be brutal you have to either have a population that does not care (like the US did during our war against the Filipinos in the early 1900s, which succeeded for this exact reason), or you need a dictatorship with strict censorship of news.

Portugal was a dictatorship for its entire colonial war. It's absurd, and imo downright retarded to think that not only are the two situations comparable, but that the issue was the quality of the soldiers deployed.

This isn't true, though. The US is an all-volunteer force and our servicemen get a ridiculous amount of training. Even during the draft and Vietnam there was a great deal of training involved for even the hicks. It's not just about churning them through basic training, there are countless specialties in the US military, many of which require so much additional training that it might as well be like going to university (look at what we put our submarine crews through, for example, 2 years of power school in addition to basic training).
