Jap movies are utterly shit like as their directors' brains.
Only acceptable and splendid ones ever for me are Outrage series by Takeshi Kitano.
As for non-Jap stuffs, I love Memento, 12 monkeys and Dark City.
Cozy things from Europe are also nice.

But i'd say this, or the original one atleast. it's an movie adaption of a quite known book. The movie is being remade for the third time and it tells a story about a reservist MG unit in continuation war that got drafted immediately after getting out of conscription.
